I use the Evoluent as well, I think I'm on #3. Works well with Creo and has helped with the elbow pain I was getting from a standard mouse.

There's a default search order that Pro|E uses that will liekly help you out. It changed with WF and there's a hidden config option to switch it back.
When opening an assembly in WF the order that Pro|E looks for the parts and subassy's is:
1. In session (in memory)
2. Directory containing...
I've often wished that mapkeys recorded actual actions rather than the literal information. In other words, if I type record the text, if I Copy - Paste, record Copy - Paste. Better yet, if it's changeable info, ask me how it should be recorded.
I think you may have to resort to a batch file...
