    accuracy in solidwork

I tried almost every single file formats available in SW. so far, the best result (not perfect) is 1. export w_t format from SW 2. reimport it back to SW 3. export it again in STEP from SW 4. import STEP file into Pro/E lee

    accuracy in solidwork

Thanks for the reply. I'm having problems exporting solidwork model into Pro/E ( surfaces didn't connected, surfaces weren't tangent to each other, edges of surfaces looked faceted not smooth, ....) In Pro/E, users can increase the part's accuracy so that they get higher quality exported files...

    accuracy in solidwork

Hi all, how do you increase the accuracy in solidworks? Thanks, Lee

high resolution mpeg file from design animation

Hi all, does anyone know a way to export high resolution movie file from design animation module? I can only get screen capture quality movie from it. thanks, lee

    how vacuum regulator works?

Hi all, Could anyone explain how a vacuum regulator / pressure regulator work? My understanding is a regulator is used to create 2 chambers of different pressure readings. If a diaghram is used, how can air goes from one chamfer to another? Thanks, Lee

    locking taper angle

Hi all, what is the standard angle for a locking taper? Does it depend on mating materials? A taper machined onto two mating parts such that when the parts are mated the frictional forces are so great will not rotate or move with respect to one another. No clamping forces are required to keep...

    design for medical sterilization question

Thanks for all the replies. open bottom float is good suggestion. what i need to know is whether part with seams is an "ok design" (not good design) for medical sterilization. If things get trapped in the seams, pre-sterlization conditioning like rinsing and cleaning is the only way to remove...

    design for medical sterilization question

hi all, I'm designing a plastic float which will be subjected to medical sterilization such as ETO, autoclaving and hydrogen peroxide gas plasma. I'm thinking about doing a 2-piece design which will be snapped together with o-ring in between for preventing water from getting into the float. I'm...

    aluminum casting wall thickness

Thanks for all the response. The summary is : consistent wall thickness is good casting design practice, but sometimes "it is cheaper to hog out the extra metal than put the extra cost into the casting". now I know I don't have to put as much effort into shelling out the casted part as...

    aluminum casting wall thickness

Hi All, For aluminum casting part (sand cast, permanent mold or investment casting), do we need to core out the part? I have seen a lot of casted parts with very thick section. What is the recommended maxinum wall thickness for a part size of about 3" X 2" X 24"? Thanks, Lee

    coefficient of friction for plastics

hi, Thanks for the response! I will check out the GE site. I'm not doing any snap fit ball joint, the load will be very small (0.5 lb to 1 lb, 1 inch diameter ball), the contact will be close to line contacts (top and bottom of the ball). Acetal on PC is my first choice but I need to explore...

    coefficient of friction for plastics

hi all, where can I find info about coefficient of friction for plastics? any good websites or books? i'm designing a ball joint and thinking about using pp on pc Or pp on pp. I also need to know the compatibility and wear issues. I can find info regarding individual plastics but i need to know...

    elastomer for spring

Hi All, I'm thinking about using TPE/elastomer material as a spring, like wave washer or flat spring. Has anyone done something like this? creep might be an issue? how do you predict spring force? thanks, Lee

    curved lead screw

HI All, I got it. The implementation of the curved lead screw is almost identical to the straight screw, except that the teeth are circular patterned on the single ruled arc (the tooth is radially spaced / duplicated about the same arc). I made an SLA protoype and it worked. Thanks, lee

    curved lead screw

Hi all, Thanks for the replies. Long story short. I was challenged by an industrial designer to come out with a working plastic curved lead screw design for a medical device project (apparently, designers prefer arc over line). I agreed with him because of the fact that the payoff will be big...

    curved lead screw

Hi All, Has anyone seen a custom thread design that allows a threaded nut to follow a curved threaded rod (true arc trajectory), like bending a lead screw. can it be done? I think it might be possible if the nut only has one thread inside. has eveyone seen something like that? and where...

    pressure drop

Hi all, I have a fluid question and hope you can help me. If the air flow rate and tube (inlet and outlet) ID remain constant, is it true that the pressure drop across a member will remain the same no matter what the pressure at the system is operating at? eg. for constant flow rate and tube...

    finishing options for aluminum

Hi All, What are the finishing options for aluminum part with blasted surface finish? I'm looking for some kind of coatings/platings/... which can protect the part from stains/scratches and normal cleaning agents. I also need to keep the natural aluminum color (dull silver look), so I guess...
