PMI - Siemens needs to Get Serious and Lead

General question for the Siemens folks. Having looked at the current functionality in NX9, I'd say there is much improvement needed. At what point will the Siemens leadership team begin spending money on the module versus spamming the world with half truths of benefits? This is the future...

    MBD and MIN/MAX Dimensions

I've read many threads touching on the use of Min and Max for product definition. There seem to be two camps, one that see no application value, and one that see it as useful in limited circumstances. Personally, I see the application on Min and Max dimensions as very necessary part of...

    Minimum and Maximum PMI Dimensions

John, Opened GTAC IR 7281061 If you can help get the proper Siemens people understanding and looking at this issue it would be greatly appreciated. We have been working on implementation and are working through a long list of GTAC issues related to PMI and CMM. The end goal is not simply to...

    Thanks again John!

    Minimum and Maximum PMI Dimensions

Thanks John, I appreciate your replies. There has always been, and always will be a need to use Min and Max dimensions in unique situations where the summation of surrounding dimensional, form and position limits do not satisfy an engineering requirement. We strongly believe that this is...

    Minimum and Maximum PMI Dimensions

John, Yes no issues using limits. What I need is a dimension with nominal and the appended abbreviation MAX, or MIN. In your example the nominal is 5.000 what I need is an associative dimension of 4.995 MIN for example.

    Minimum and Maximum PMI Dimensions

The use of Min and Max dimensions are often necessary as overriding modifiers to the dimensional tolerance scheme of a part. I appreciate that PMI is more reliable because of the inability to manually override dimensions from what the solid actually is. The reality is that min and max...

    File Reuse and Rejuvenation

We are reusing files that contain model geoemetry that is driven by WAVE links from a top down control structure. As you suggested John, we were already looking at the file>>export option and have found the expression and WAVE links as challenges too. Based on my work in CheckMate checker...

    File Reuse and Rejuvenation

Is there a limit to the reuse of files? We have been reusing files as the starting point for new designs since around 2005. At each reuse, changes are incorporated to take advantage of the latest NX functionality. As you may imagine, these files now have expression P values in the 10-30K+...

Linked body not moving with parent body

Are you sure that your link is not a Position Independent Linked Object - PILO? This will cause the geometry to update, but not position when the parent is edited. These are great for linking parts into tooling designs, but are not good for system designs where parts are expected to react upon...

    Moving from TeamCenter

You can create a TC BOM and copy and paste hundreds of files into that BOM save it then export the assembly (BOM just created) from TC. Good luck keeping all the file revisions straight and working in assemblies without the aid of revision rules. Does you company have any plans on how they...

    find uncovered wave links

I've been kicking the tires on NX6 Beta and now production. WAVE users are going to really like this. The browser can be exported in XML format and looks the same when opened without NX or TCeng running. I might be wrong but I also think NX6 remembers the last know file and feature info of...

    Linked body versus promotion

If your using WAVE links or promotions I have to assume that your doing so in the contaxt of an assembly. With that said, the difference between WAVE and promotions is this. WAVE Pro - You need not load the component parts to see your part in the assembly. Con - You will see the component...

    Creation of Compound Radii Fillet

Seakin5100, You might try a conic blend. The problem is that it is very near impossible to replicate the same results as the compound, but you can get close. I have used sheet blends and the patch method suggested by nkwheelguy. Main problem is discontinuities that can cause issues for...

    NX4 --- Remove part history

Hi Cowski, The only way that I can think of to remove part history is to: Create a new part file. Go to your existing part and do a File>>Export>>Part Select Existing Part radio button. Specify the New Part. Make all Layers Selectable and Unblank all then Fit. Set feature parameters...
