    ABB ACS255 120VAC 1PH Input/230VAC 3PH Setup

Hello, Based on the manual, we have set the ACS255 to the following operating parameters: Parameter 9902 is set to 0 Parameter 1103 is set to 1 These settings essentially should allow us to operate the VFD while the DI2 is closed (Run enabled). See image. This is an out of the box VFD. We...

    ABB ACS255 120VAC 1PH Input/230VAC 3PH Setup

Hello, I am commissioning an ABB VFD ACS255 IP20 model. According to the manual the input is 120VAC 1PH and the output is 230VAC 3PH. I have it wired to a Baldor motor that is 230V, 3PH and 60Hz. I have the VFD configured with the motor specifications. When I try to start the motor on...

Usage of digital valve controller in lieu of SOV

Thanks @xnuke. That's a good perspective. Based on your current designs where you include an SOV already with at positioner, do you install the SOV in series with the output port of the positioner? Reading through the manual of these positioners, apparently when the positioner loses...

Usage of digital valve controller in lieu of SOV

Hello, I am exploring the idea of using a so called "digital valve controller" (a.k.a. positioner) instead of SOVs for on/off valves. Multiple manufacturers offer what is known as a "digital valve controller" which is a programmable electro-mechanic signal converter that controls the air...

Blown "fuse" in transmission line (pictures)

Question, Yesterday I was disturbed by a really loud explosion in our back yard and electricity went out. When I turned to the window I saw sparks falling down our backyard so I immediately new there was a problem on the transmission lines. I took a picture of what seems to be a fuse...

    Electrical Annunciator Specification and Application

Greetings, I am currently reviewing the need to prepare an specification for electrical annunciation panels. The ISA 18.1 addresses electrical announciators yet I am wondering if these are still relevant in the process industries for other purposes than machinery control panels. In modern...

    PVRV for Atmospheric Vessels

Hi, We have atmospheric tanks that do not have PVRV and we still comply with safety and hazardous considerations. The vent size is determined based on relief flow conditions. Regards, OptiControls

    LNG production process

On that table I don't see the LNG projects in Australia. I know of the following: Gorgon LNG Wheatstone LNG Gladstone LNG (GLNG) Asia Pacific LNG (APLNG) Queensland Curtis LNG (QCLNG) Itchthys LNG Pluto LNG Darwin LNG And of course Prelude FLNG

    H2SO4 Mist Analyzer

Hi all, I am looking for an analyzer capable of detecting traces of H2SO4 in a gas sample (ABB, Emerson, Yokogawa, MT, ThermoFisher, Siemens, etc.) I have looked all over the place and I can't seem to find one, or at least the datasheets don't mention H2SO4 detection. Does anybody have a...

Low Pressure Alarm for Nitrogen Blanketing Line to a Storage Tank

@Amanda123 To give you some perspective, in my plant we have a hot oil storage tank with N2 blanketing to prevent degradation of the hot oil. The tank is protected with a PVRV (pressure Vacuum Relief Valve) and we do not have a PAL (pressure alarm low) on the N2 line. Regards.

    LNG production process

I am assuming that you are only referring to the methane liquefaction process exclusively. You have listed two of the most dominant processes, CoP Optimized Cascade and APCI C3-MR. The selection involves a financial studies and technical studies that consider equipment quantities, sizes, energy...

Level switch as part 2oo3 voting

First and foremost, yes you can use a limit switch in a voting scheme. On the other hand, assuming that this is for a Safety Instrumented System (SIS), limits switches have a higher failure rate when compared with process transmitters. With that in mind, perform the SIL calculation and...

    pressure compensation/regulation for TDL analyzer

My understanding from the Mettler Toledo GPro 500 is that is a real-time non-extracting sample analyzer. Regards.

    Analyzer Types Table

Analyzer Technologies I am putting together a table for quick reference on analyzer technologies used in the oil and gas process industry. I would like some advice from the community to review the accuracy of the table and potentially add any technology that I may have missed. Detector/Sensor...

    Class A, B, C shutdown logic

At my site we use ESD 1, ESD2 and ESD 3. ESD 1 has the highest criticality and it's a full facility shutdown. ESD 2 initiates the shutdown for process units and ESD 3 initiates the shutdown of equipment. For the case of compressors, as ESD 3 on critical equipment will result in a ESD 1. After...

    Electromagnetic Flow Metering of CO2

Hello, Currently working on the selection of a flow meter to measure a flow mix of water+amine+CO2. I am currently considering Coriolis as the first option yet I have some lines larger than 16" and it's not economically attractive to use Coriolis for this applications. I have done some...

    Reverse rotation of centrifugal compressor

Gholam Baghery's comment is correct. I usually see check valves installed on the discharge of the compressor. This should prevent reverse rotation of the compressor. Although this is unlikely, it is considered in safety protection scenarios. Regards.

number of stages for cryogenic compressor

Hi, Just for my understanding, are you saying that the temperature of the fluid (gas) inside the compressor is below zero? Regards.
