I am trying to design and size sheet piles for driving into basically peat soil. The sheet piles will be permanent and their only role is to prevent bank erosion around a pump Since peat is unstable, tie-downs would be useless. The intention is to drive piles down to stable foundation and have...
I am trying to calculate the load applied on a structure by water. Using hydrostatic pressure I can calculate the pressure and force applied. My question is, is that force in terms of lb-mass? would I need to convert that to lb-force for my structural analysis?
One side will be water, the other side will be saturated soil. the intention of the structure is to prevent erosion of the soil during pumping/backwash which will in turn prevent anything from bring sucked into the pump. There will never be a case where the water side is empty. I am thinking of...
Hello, does anyone have tips or advice on how to design a concrete structure that will be underwater? A contractor provided a 12" thick structure with #4 at 16 o/c (I don't think #4 at 16o/c for a 12" slab meets the minimum required steel). I need to verify that this will work but I have never...
Hello, I am struggling to find an example of how to design a doubly reinforced retaining wall. I tried analyzing the structure as a 1' wide beam but due to the 12" thickness of the wall I keep getting a very small As required and a very small a. Trying to use the doubly reinforced design method...
