Wait. the answer has just come to me.
At the beginning of the simulation all element status =1.
As the simulation progresses the failure criterion of some elements are met, setting status=0.
These elements are deleted from view immediately, so I never see any elements with status=0.
So it was...
Ok, I see the global model never uploaded. here it is.http://files.engineering.com/getfile.aspx?folder=4e7c36b4-838b-4e97-9913-00e9a18f9ab5&file=Global_Standard.inp
here's the submodel in it's entirety. It's rather big. I'm spoilt with access to a cluster...http://files.engineering.com/getfile.aspx?folder=cfd60a44-f265-4569-932c-c57d206c8167&file=Sub_Standard.zip
opps, I didn't know you were going to try run it.... in that case you'll need the full model.
If you have any general comments either, please, don't hold back!http://files.engineering.com/getfile.aspx?folder=fb5e758e-99ff-4316-9152-34d1d61997be&file=failure.f
Sure, I left out the geometry in the .inp file and i pasted the subroutine in at the bottom of the input because i think you can only upload one file at a time here.
Thanks,
Aislinghttp://files.engineering.com/getfile.aspx?folder=9fc2adc0-939e-4215-a00f-2ffcefe471f0&file=example.inp
Hi all,
I am running an explicit simulation with vuanisohyper subroutine. I've included a simple failure criterion using element deletion which seems to work well.
My problem is that I can't seem to get abaqus to change the element status from 1 to 0 for deleted elements. stateNew(k,1) is the...
Hi all,
what, in your opinion, is a reasonable aspect ratio to apply to a highly deformable material in compression? I have seen this technique of using high aspect ratios before but haven't read any indication of how high! Some of my elements have an aspect ratio of 1000, is this completely...
This may seem like a trivial problem but I cannot solve it on my own. I have created a part by extrusion and then by performing a sweep cut along a plane. The part in my model is actually a rigid body so I'm not overly concerned with mesh quality. However I have a small fillet radius which is...
I can only attach one image at a time: here's the other (normal) imagehttp://files.engineering.com/getfile.aspx?folder=3d350230-5478-4af2-8db5-a31d38278e98&file=4.bmp
Hi Eduardo,
so the main issue for me seems to be the user-defined material V abaqus material rather than the general contact V contact pair.
I'm using the vuanisohyper subroutine. I tried the following combinations
1) vuanisohyper + contact pair (kinematic)
2) vuanisohyper + general contact...
Hi Edumalta,
I'm having the exact same problem. Did you find a solution? I'm am going to try the contact pair method instead of general contact but I find it difficult to get right.
My problem has a strange aspect to it. I am running the contact problem with a user defined material model...
Thanks for your help MechIrl, that's the advice I wanted to hear! The mesh is really coarse for now, but I have a much finer submodel around the contact area (not shown).
My next challenge is to get the element deletion working effectively. Can I still that using the general contact approach?
here's a second image if it is still a bit difficult to visualise the problem with the first.http://files.engineering.com/getfile.aspx?folder=9b0a24b0-c470-40e9-889d-fcd159ebaaa1&file=pic2.bmp
I'm not sure what addition details would be helpful. The simulation is intended to eventually model a stabbing scenario (yes, stabbing!). But for now i want to drive a knife through a thin piece of skin that is encastered around the edges. I will try attach an image.
I understood that I would...
Hi all,
I am trying to model a sharp knife penetrating skin. I have some ideas about how to do this but I would invite any comments from all you experts on my method at this early stage.
I am using explicit. The knife is modelled as rigid body and is driven via boundary conditions. The skin is...
Dear Bartosz,
you were right! The problem was that I was calling vusdfld inside vuanisohyper. I'm glad it was not a very complicated problem to solve :) I'm really grateful for your advice.
Kind Regards,
Aisling
I should also point out that only the first third or so of that .for file is being used since there are different material definitions in there that I'm not using.
