DekDee,
ASTM A240 type 410 is a p6-gr1 so QW-407.1 (a) is applicable.
So, QW-407.1(a)(5) means that WPS can be used with a PWHT at 595C even if the procedure has been qualified with a PWHT at 760C.
Are you agree?
WPS: P6 gr 1, FCAW, filler metal E410NiMo PWHT: 760
Thanks for your answer
Hi DekDee,
I have been a welding engineer for a long time and know the ASME code and I have been using this website for many years. My question is to compare my interpretation with other people.
To me QW-407.1(a)(5) means that WPS can be used with a PWHT at 595C
Also, I have read the...
Hi,
If the WPS is qualified with a temperature of 760C can the PWHT be carried out at 595C without re-qualifying the WPS?
Note: there is a toughness requirement in the contract.
I know UG-84(h)(3), my point is:
Material Over 1 1/2 in, means that included 1 1/2in.
T ≥ 1 1/2
If we have a test coupon 1 1/2 in for the PQR my point is UG-84(h)(3)is applicable so we need 2 set of charpy.
Is my interpretation is good?
Hi,
I need to clarify with my supplier that they disagree with my point of view on the interpretation of ASME section VIII div. 1 UG-84(h)(3). The PQR is made on a 1 1/2 inch plate to be welded on both sides with a CVN requirement.
My point of view is that UG-84 (h) (3) is this: Material Over...
Hi,
Based on my understanding of ASME Section V, art. T-762, for an alternating current electromagnetic yoke shall be verified
prior to use each day the yoke is used with the lifting power yokes at least 10 lb and not just once a year. is that it?

According to ASME section IX the thickness of tensile test specimens shall be represent the full tickness (115mm) of the test coupon. So if my supplier send me a PQR with only 16mm for the thickness of tensile test specimen, it's not conform to ASME section IX, right?
For a 10mm repair on a 150mm steel plate, my test coupon shall be about 115mm (1.33xT) with a 5mm (2xt) weld deposited metal. For tensile specimen, do I have to test the full thickness 115 mm of the test coupon?
I can not find the number of transducers to use according to the thicknesses to be inspected in the ASME standard for angle beam techniques to expect a butt weld on shell plate A516 gr. 70. Section T-472.1 is not very clear. Where can I find this information in ASME?
I'm presently going over PQR at a Chinese supplier in china. For the cutting of the tensile test specimen, they used multiple specimens to represent a 40mm test coupons. I noticed that the four specimens that were tested measured 26mmn, 25mm and the other tensile 23mm, 24mm. The two combined...
What's about the mechanicals test. I've qualified a PQR GMAW solid wire (request impact test) with a test coupon 40 mm, one side (20 mm) in 3G short circuit and the other side (20 mm) in 1G spray mode. For the mechanical test, I think I need 2 tensile (full thickness), 4 side bend test and for...
