Hi,

I need to clarify with my supplier that they disagree with my point of view on the interpretation of ASME section VIII div. 1 UG-84(h)(3). The PQR is made on a 1 1/2 inch plate to be welded on both sides with a CVN requirement.

My point of view is that UG-84 (h) (3) is this: Material Over 1 1/2 in. is T > or = at 1 1/2 in. and not T > 1 1/2 in.

So for 1 1/2 in. test coupon we need 2 set of charpy in the weld and 2 set in th HAZ.

Do you agree?

Read the Code:
UG-848(h)(3) Material Over 11/2 in. (38 mm) Thick

I know UG-84(h)(3), my point is:
Material Over 1 1/2 in, means that included 1 1/2in.
T ≥ 1 1/2
If we have a test coupon 1 1/2 in for the PQR my point is UG-84(h)(3)is applicable so we need 2 set of charpy.
Is my interpretation is good?
