Rectangular Flat Face Flange with Metal to Metal Contact Outside Bolt Circle

In order to size the bolts for this type of flange, the contact force between the flanges is required. Since this is a non-standard rectangular flange, the calculation methods in Appendix Y are not applicable. Once the bolting is determined, I will run an FEA. Can anyone provide some insight in how to go about determining Hc?

Thank you

Have you checked Enquiry Case 5500/133 to PD5500 for rectangular flanges?

Thank you. Looks like the rectangular flange with full face gasket procedure can be modified to work.

I once read an article regarding design of bolted flange connection for non-circular pressure vessels.

Try to google it.

Enquiry Case 5500/133 is OBSOLETE.
See PD-5500 (2021)

@ Pengar

This is not applicable. The original author is talking about flat-faced metal-to-metal contact.
