Wiring heaters on Y connections from a delta source

Thanks pwrtran So in this case then, why the drawing shows that the 277V heater (not 480V) can be used in this configuration?

Wiring heaters on Y connections from a delta source

Thanks jghrist, but isn't phase A to phase B(For example) supposed to be 480V? Instead, it show as 277V and this is the part I don't understand.

Wiring heaters on Y connections from a delta source

David, Thanks for the input but I'm confused about the length. I understand the geometry part but why is the length of any relevance in this case?

Wiring heaters on Y connections from a delta source

Hi, Could anyone help me understand why this is a 277V configuration across the heaters instead of 480V? The incoming power is 480V, delta - so no neutral, while the heaters are 277V, single phase. My guess is that you can get 277V from a 480V only between phase and neutral -which is not the...

277V Baseboard heaters off of 3PH/480V power supply

Dave, you are correct - thermostat will be on the tunnel wall 1. - Contactor will be located about 12' away from tunnel into a Disconnect Panel - this is the reason for the Type W cable connection 2. - No 3. - I don't have the plate (and not for another month, since the equipment is on site...

277V Baseboard heaters off of 3PH/480V power supply

Dave, thanks for your response, 1. No it's not mining 2. The heaters will be controlled by a single thermostat that will latch/unlatch a 3 phase contactor 3. None of the hazardous or combustible 4.They are UL listed, but the tunnel will have slow motion and relatively for really short...

277V Baseboard heaters off of 3PH/480V power supply

Thanks both for your input. I did plan for using the 5C/10GA cable for each side but I just want it to make sure I'm right. Thanks for the reference to the NEC code, but I forgot to mention that this equipment is a movable part and this is the reason I'll have to use a cord.

277V Baseboard heaters off of 3PH/480V power supply

Hi I have to install 12ea 277V/2.5KW baseboard heaters into a tunnel (that's how we call it)that is feed by 480/3Ph line. 6ea will have to go on left wall and the other 6 on the right wall. I plan to use 1st and 4th heater from phase A, 2nd and 5th from B, and 3rd with 6th from C phase for...

PLC vs Solid State Relay Drive Parameters

Thanks for the help. My equipment is working and there were no other adjustments required regarding the drive parameters.

Need help wiring up an old Westinghouse Motor

    It can be single phase 115/230 V or 230 V with 2 x 110 V hot leads, I guess.

PLC vs Solid State Relay Drive Parameters

The communication between the drive and PLC is made using the same com cable(shielded)that was used with the SSR (one end of cable at PLC & the other one at drive at same control circuit terminals). The parameters at drive we use to change them by using the digital operator at the front cover of...

PLC vs Solid State Relay Drive Parameters

Hi everyone, I just got into this issue and I'll like some help: I had a 7.5 HP motor driven by Solid State Relay and I replace the SSR with PLC. Now my question is that it should require to change parameters on the drive or the motors should run fine with same parameters (considering that we...

    Brake rectifier operation

Hello again, and I apologize for my late answer but I'v been bad sick lately. I just managed to send a team in the field to check the motor and I found that you were right (both of you) and the issue was actually different than what I was looking for. The motor was actually running ( I still...

    Brake rectifier operation

Thanks again rhatcher for the help. I'm confuse now about the brake coil voltage - while the motor is running there are 2 voltages across the coil? DC and AC also? Anyway I won't be able to test anything until tomorrow, and another big issue is that I do the troubleshooting over the phone with...

    Brake rectifier operation

Hi, I'm working as industrial electrician tech support and I'm kind of new in this type of work so here is my question: The machinery I was troubleshooting today is PLC operated with a VFD controlled motor. Is a 480V AC, 5 HP with a brake rectifier that has 4 terminals. The motor just quit...
