Processor vs. CPU vs. Core for domain parallelization

Ok I think I get it now. Number of processors in Abaqus means number of "cores". Is there any advantage to specifying more domains than the number of cores being used? For example, since I have 16 cores available, the default value is 16 domains but why would I want to use 32?

Processor vs. CPU vs. Core for domain parallelization

This is probably a trivial question but I'm confused by what exactly Abaqus means when it says "use multiple processors" in the job module. Here's what I'm confused about: I have two Intel Xeon CPU E5-2687W "processors", each with 8 "cores", so I'm wondering how exactly Abaqus distributes a job...

Abaqus CAE GUI: Changing Fonts and Font Sizes?

Hi, I'm using Abaqus 2016 and wondering if it's possible to change the fonts and font sizes in the Abaqus GUI, especially the Python command line interface since it can be very difficult to read? I found in the documentation that you can change some fonts and font sizes in the GUI by changing...

Suggestions: Import Abaqus/Explicit Stresses/Strains but NOT deformed mesh for part instance?

Hi All, I have a very specific (but weird) problem I'm trying to solve but have no clue how to accomplish this using CAE. I've included a schematic to help describe my problem. Basically, I'm modeling the straightening of a complex shaped wire in Abaqus/Explicit (see the left diagram in my...

    Centroid of Nodal Points

Hi all, Is there a quick way abaqus can calculate and display the centroid of selected nodal coordinates on an instance from an odb file? The query toolkit doesn't really have the option I am looking for. For example, say I choose a few nodal coordinates and I want abaqus to calculate the...

Help with composite medical device modeling (microcatheter)

I'm trying to come up with a better way to prevent kinking when using my current microcatheter model (cylindrical tube with rebar reinforced shell elements) and the only way I can see accomplishing this is to try to model the real thing. Basically they are long polymer tubes with embedded...

    Subroutines!

What version of Fortran does Abaqus use, 77?

    Subroutines!

Also does it help to learn Fortran? I really want to learn how to use subroutines?

    Subroutines!

sdebock, I appreciate the help. What is the example problem you looked at in the user manual? I use Abaqus 6.12. Maybe you can help me if I define my exact problem for you. Assuming you are in bioengineering, you may know what a catheter is used for. Basically what I need to do is push a...

    Subroutines!

Why is everyone so cold on these forums? Ever post I read there's always a snarky response by someone, and I've seen your name before. Anyways, when I said documentation I meant the user manuals. I really want to learn how to use subroutines like VDSIP and VDLOAD. The things I have found online...

    Subroutines!

Hi All, I use Abaqus for biofluids and biomechanical research. I was wondering if there was a comprehensive guide anywhere for using subroutines? (i.e. book, powerpoint, etc.) I've searched these forums for a reference, and have also read over the documentation but that hasn't been very...

    User Sub-Routine for beam elements

Hi, I've been using abaqus for over a year now but I am still not familiar with how to use subroutines and have a problem I need to address. Lets say I create a wire, with a certain length, and assign it a beam section. I then mesh the wire, with a certain number of beam elements. Now I want to...
