Sublimation process of dry ice in a closed space

It is actually a very simple application but I would like to make it very optimized and make the better use of dry ice possible. That is why I am investigating, maybe too much, where the company never investigate before.

Sublimation process of dry ice in a closed space

The intent is too keep a box (another one, not the one where the dry ice lay) at a certain temperature. The dry ice is used as a buffer to suck hot from the environment.

Sublimation process of dry ice in a closed space

Thank you for all this information. I will take a look at the equation. The box around the dry ice is very small because it is only here to store the dry ice. So, let say 2 times the volume of dry ice. The box is not specifically insulated and heat comes from the environment around the box.

Sublimation process of dry ice in a closed space

Thank you for your answer chicopee. I already did quite a lot of experiments that proves that there is almost no dry ice left after 15 hours in our condition (T = 22°C and P = 1 atm), but with a NOT airtight box. We now would like to learn if it is interesting (and how much it is) to build an...

What do you need to prove you that this is not homework? You want to check my linkedin profile?

Sublimation process of dry ice in a closed space

Hello everybody, I would like to understand a bit better the sublimation process for the purpose of my study. I then have a dry ice block (m = 3kg, Vice = 2.10^-3 m3) in a closed space (Vtot = 4.10^-3 m3), in an ambient temperature. The temperature of the inside of the box (the closed space)...

Correct a FEM solid simulation software (solidworks simulation) to take in account convection

Ok thank you. I am already trying to play with the air conductivity to find a good value.

Correct a FEM solid simulation software (solidworks simulation) to take in account convection

Thank you! Can we modify the equation in Solidworks? If you have any information about the mathematical purpose, I would be thankful as well.

Correct a FEM solid simulation software (solidworks simulation) to take in account convection

Hello everybody, I am using SolidWorks Simulation (FEM) and I would like to conduct some simulation involving thin layers of air (60 mm) and natural convection. As the software is not Solidworks Flow (FVM), I think it will not give very good result because it understands air as a solid, and...

Additional cost due to fuel consumption of a device in flight

Thank you Compositepro. You right I corrected it after my message and I founded the same things as you do. By the way I have actually no sense of reality and money (in this field indeed) I focus more on math and logic, but one of my colleague from sale check me. Anyway, thank you everybody I...

Additional cost due to fuel consumption of a device in flight

Thank you rb1957 Indeed I am comparing several solution to cool during fly with the best efficiency according to the mass, the cost and the energy consumption. Thank you Compositepro You right the result is very different if I suppose one trip of 2000 hours or 1000 trips of 2 hours. I did it...

Estimation of the electrical efficiency of the engine in an aircraft such as A320 or B737

debodine: Thank you and you are right. But I do not have this number neither, but actually I think I do not need it. The thrust in the engine comes from the rotating motion of the shaft. Thus, I can, somehow, assume that the efficiency I give (0.6 - 0.4) is the efficiency to convert the chemical...

Additional cost due to fuel consumption of a device in flight

Compositepro I like you! But does it is because you have the same method as I have or because you are right? I still do not know :) Anyway, you explain the same thing in a slightly different way. If someone else agree this method I will definitely keep it. But, it is still pretty strange...

Additional cost due to fuel consumption of a device in flight

The 100 USD/kg/year is an useful value used by salesmen (no formula behind) at my company. It used to estimate the benefits of one technology on an other. The A320 has a range of 6 150 km, but makes usually smaller flights (2000 km to 3000 km), it means that it does not take-off with tank fully...

Additional cost due to fuel consumption of a device in flight

Thank you for your answer! I am not sure I understand you perfectly. Yes in this simple example I assume that there is always the max of fuel carried and then no fuel is consumed by the chiller, which is not true. I wanted to keep it simple. For my study I consider a very long fly of 2000 hours...

Additional cost due to fuel consumption of a device in flight

Hi everybody, I am conducting a very simple business case of the cost of a chiller (to cool food) for an airline but I am pretty surprised by one factor which is huge. You know that it costs something to carry weight in an aircraft, I read it is about 100 USD/kg/year. Then, if my chiller...

Estimation of the electrical efficiency of the engine in an aircraft such as A320 or B737

So you agree IRstuff for the schema of the calculation? This is what I am asking for, the value of Jet Fuel A (aircraft kerosene) is not very hard to find, and by the way you made a mistake. It is more 43 MJ/kg according to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jet_fuel. But what do you think about the...

Estimation of the electrical efficiency of the engine in an aircraft such as A320 or B737

Thank you very much. I am looking for this very value debodine: the amount of fuel consumed by the engine to produce electricity. I have found something else in documentation. We have basically three devices involved in electricity production in an aircraft. Turbofans convert chemical energy in...

Estimation of the electrical efficiency of the engine in an aircraft such as A320 or B737

Hi everybody, I would like to have an estimation of the efficiency of producing electricity in a narrow bodies aircraft. I am looking for a value which link the electrical watts consumed by a device on board and the kilograms of kerosene required for this. A gross estimation will be far...

Relation between Pressure and Convection Heat Transfer

Thank you very much This is definitely the kind of answer I was looking for even if I am quite forced to go through a hand book to solve it.
