Hello,
If a welder takes a qualification test and passes for company A finishes the job and does not come back to work again for company A for 18 months. Does he need to re-qualify for company A? If so where does it say so in the code?
Thank you for your help
My question to the experts is this- When preparing a prequalified wps for FCAW-G using E71T-9/0.045" wire and 75/25 shielding gas is it allowable for example to list amperage as 150 - 180 +/- 10% and voltage as 22.0 - 28.0 +/- 15% and travel speed as 4.0 - 10.0 ipm +/- 25%, provided these values...
Thank you for your responses. The thickness of material is 0.625" 3.5"OD pipe. The MTR states ASTM A519, HOT ROLL-QUENCH-TEMPER. Service is low-temp impacts @-50 required.
We need to develop a wps to weld A333 grade 6 to 4130 to ASME XI. Could you help with recommendations for filler metal GTAW root and hot pass and SMAW fill/cap and pre heat. i don't see anything in the welding spec's that calls out PWHT? The material size is 4 inch sch 160.
Thanks in advance.
When interpreting radiographs to API 1104 20th edition para. 9.3.9 calls out porosity, figures 19 & 20 use the term gas pockets. Should the reader sheet/interpretation sheet indicate porosity or gas pocket for an individual pore, seams trivial to me but we are getting flack from QA for using gas...
Thanks a bunch for your time and expertise. what would you consider the maximum acceptable hardness range to be for these materials? we will be using Vickers HV10.
We are considering GTAW root & hot pass SMAW fill and cap, ER80S/E8018B2L or C3. the 4130 is N Q&T. The MTR for the L80 shows 0.30% C, tempering temperature of 1150F. thank you
We need to develop a welding procedure for welding L-80 Type 1 casing to cone shaped for lack of a better term "end caps" of 4130 material. the pipe and cones are 13.375" x 0.375". my greatest concern is the PWHT that would be required after welding. design temperature is -50F to +250F. design...
As have I chicopee (37 years) and being in the test lab bushiness I have my reasons for the skepticism, i was more interested in if anyone out there has any experience with this electrode.
Thanks again.
Hello-
There is push to switch from using cellulose (E8010-P1) downhill electrodes for pipe welding on the North Slope of Alaska by one of the owner companies to using low hydrogen electrodes. I understand that Lincoln has what they call a downhill low hydrogen rod LH-D that they claim can be...
Hello all,
We have some P5B pipe 6" sch 40 material that needs to be PWHT to ASME VIII Div. 1. My question is there a requirement to do hardness testing on the material after PWHT?
Thanks
Al- I have a follow up question to this- in the past in order to qualify CJP API 5L X65 pipe to ASTM A572Gr50 plate for pile caps for example we would roll 1/2" A572 plate to match 8 5/8"ODx0.500"X65 pipe. So if pipe no longer qualifies plate how would you qualify a scenario such as this? Even...
When a pipe pile is welded to a pile cap with a CJP weld with backing, is this considered a Tubular Connection? If so do the welders performing these welds need to be qualified on pipe if the pile pipe is less than 24"OD?
Thanks
Hello,
I have a question concerning cvn testing to AWS D1.5. When calculating the average ft/lb for the 5 weld metal cvn samples are the high/low values excluded or are all five specimens averaged?
Thank you.
My question is is it allowable to test two welders on one coupon, one would weld one side and one would weld the other side of the test coupon, if the test assembly is inclined 45 degrees to qualify all positions for each welder? The test would be on 18"OD x 0.500"WT X65 line pipe radiography...
