    AISC 360 for stiffened plates

Does AISC 360 include any design recommendation or requirements for longitudinal stiffeners and longitudinally stiffened webs of plate girders? Also, I can not find any requirement for shear lag effective width due to flexible shear stiffness of deck plates (stiffened by T beams or similar...

AISC Design Guide 4 and 13. Possible contradiction?

Yes, it's correct that the Mnp defined in DG 4 is based on thick plate - small dia. bolts which leads to ''no prying''. However, 60% recommendation is also for design of end plate connection incl. welds as per AISC 14th Manual. The connection that I am checking has thick end plate but the...

AISC Design Guide 4 and 13. Possible contradiction?

Thanks! In my example, I'm not designing for earthquake area so the Mnp in DG 4 Eq 3.20 can be taken equal to the required moment as long as the required moment is not less than 60% of the available flexural strength of the beam.

AISC Design Guide 4 and 13. Possible contradiction?

Wrt AISC 360-16, it recommends to refer to AISC DG 13 which is confusing!

AISC Design Guide 4 and 13. Possible contradiction?

AISC GD 4 is based on yielding line calculations of the column and beam flanges which is understandable. However, AISC DG 13 recommends to prevent yielding of column flanges under tensile flange forces which can not be found in the DG 4. Why is that and which design guide must be referenced for...

    Extract the required stress field

How to define primary stress component perpendicular to the shown surface along the given edge I can create user defined stress component along the edge as below but I can only use built-in stress components. I am not sure how to work out stress perpendicular to the required surface

    Effective Plate Width

Prior to posting this i checks ''Roark's formulas for stress and strain'' and found only one case which was same fixing scenario but knife-edge load in the middle. Is there any other references that I could be looking at? I have already run a FEA and effective width shown on previous attachment...

    Effective Plate Width

Good day Everybody, I am writing concerning with effective plate width. As shown in the attachment a plate in 10 mm thickness is simply supported by two sides. Load is applied through 4 rectangular upper plates which are not welded or fixed onto the main plate. For section modulus the effective...

    Sliding object

Mate, While going slope down the object will accelerate rather than decelerate. We are looking for stretch in the rope which is generally called reaction force. Personally I think vertical acceleration have to be calculated first then the result should be added onto gravity factor.

    Sliding object

Well, first object slides down, then fly and lastly, because it has been tied, the rope stops it abruptly and it swings down. The max reaction force comes up between freefalling and swinging - at the minor moment when rope is restricting item to fall further. Any more questions?

    Sliding object

Hi All, I have a question which we used to solve at university but to be fare I become a bit wee rusty on this now, so would appreciate if someone gives me a hand. Basically, there is an item which travels down the incline under 30 deg and flies out after some point. Need to find out max...

Convension of Heat energy to Mechanical energy

Hi All, Sticking around calculation of this type problem, decided to put them into dispute. To be fear I have never dealt with it but would like to have a general notion. Is it easy to calculate the efficiency of system or it demands much experience or where to refer to? Is there specialized...

    Pre-drilled Plate

I think there is some misunderstanding here... Lets assume that we do have an equipment that in its terms, it has 4 bolts on corners like corners of "rectangular". But width and length of this "rectangular" is variable. Now to merge this rectangular shaped equipment with my basket I am planning...

    Pre-drilled Plate

Plate is not critical component and structural integrity will be checked by me once something suitible will be conceived. It will carry aquipment that possess 6 holes in two rows. But again properties of pattern will vary. No vibrations as it is only for subsea use and will be mounted on subsea...

    Pre-drilled Plate

Hello All, I am asked to design pre-drilled plate that will allow the bolting on of future arrangements. But unfortunately dimensions between holes(both in horizontal & vertical)can vary. I am thinking to have some rows of horizontal slots but it will let me play in horizontal distance. In this...

    Subsea Design DNV 2.7-3

Good day All, Actually I am trying to define design load that needs to be applied on structure. This sentence is from the standard - ''The calculation of maximum effective weight shall include possible trapped water (when filled out of water) and possible suction when lifted from the sea...
