    MOC and Maintenance

Hi all, I am an young ME in a project company working on a maintenance piping packages for a local plant. My question is whether a Management of Change (MOC) is required for the example below. This is what I found by OSHA regarding MOCs. 1910.119(l)(1) The employer shall establish and...

    Strange Nozzle MAWP Numbers

CRL11, My boss ran into exactly the same issue. When he reached out to Codeware support, they replied with an email saying that it is a bug and they are going to fix it for the next time around. Hope it helps, Eddy

    Nozzle Inspection Minimum Required Thickness

Hello, I was having a discussion with an inspector regarding how to determine whether a nozzle would need repairs or not. He is aware of the ASME BPVC calculations for nozzles, but he can not perform calculations for every nozzle (budget constraints). He has been running the calculations for...

    Vapor Distribution Belts

marty007- We did not justify the approach with a local AI. You are correct in saying that the Code does provide some guidance regarding vapor belts, I should have mentioned in the previous post. The particular vessel that I described on the post above was not applicable to Mandatory Appendix 5...

    HVAC Software

Hello, My company is interested in beginning to incorporate HVAC for our suites of services. We provide engineering services mainly for industry with some commercial work. I am looking into the TRANE 700 software, but I am wondering if there are any other popular software available for HVAC...

    Vapor Distribution Belts

Afox88, COMPRESS has a feature to evaluate Integral Flat Head with large single circular central opening, Appendix 14. Here is a story that could help you. We were asked to evaluate a heat exchanger with a vapor distribution belt. We first tried the Appendix 14 approach and the results were a...

    Stripper transformed to Containment Vessel

Hello, I am evaluating a 100' stripper column that was converted to a Containment Vessel over 10 years ago by the client. Current inspection reports are positive regarding the state of the vessel. I wonder if anyone has ever encountered a similar situation in the past. Any comments would be...

    Firebox Steel

Hello, I am curious about what the term Firebox means in steel. For example, I am evaluating an existing pressure vessel with SA-285-Gr.C Firebox for the structural steel. The equipment was made in 1971. Thanks, Eddy

Tray Support Rings as External Pressure Stiffening Rings

Does anyone have any opinions/tips regarding rerating an existing tower for F.V. by using Tray Supports as external pressure stiffening rings? I am aware that the Tray Supports are subject to UG-29(a) and UG-29(c) in order to comply with code standards. There is a previous thread with the...

Vapor Belt Distributor & Mandatory Appendix 14

Yes. I have considered this paragraph. It led me astray. I don't think that I could use the guidance provided since it assumes vapor belt or flanged and flued expansion joint connections. These appendices do not apply to the current method of fabrication (full penetration corner welds).

Vapor Belt Distributor & Mandatory Appendix 14

All, I have been asked to evaluate an existing heat exchanger (condenser) with Vapor Belt Distributor. I have used the COMPRESS software's calculations for Integral Flat Heads with a Large, single, circular, centrally located opening (Mandatory Appendix 14) capability. Due to the method of...
