    4130 Properties after PWHT

What data do people have on 4130 when stress relieving after welding (below tempering temp) I am looking for info on the loss of UTS,YS.

    Welding 205 Stainless

Ok, my reason for ER2209 is that I have lots of stock in my store. Thanks for your help.

    Welding 205 Stainless

I really appreciate your input. There is not much information on the this material. This link was the only info I could find that indicating PH properties and can be aged. I was sceptical. http://www.azom.com/article.aspx?ArticleID=8210. To improve the life of the impeller was thinking of...

    Welding 205 Stainless

Thanks guys. Is this material a PH grade? Not much info on this material.

    Welding 205 Stainless

I have a small job to repair some cracking on an impeller cast from 205 Stainless. What filler material is recommended and shielding gas (Ar+Nitrogen?) GTAW process. Cheers

Brittle Fracture on Tensile Ti GR12

In reviewing a PQR, I notice one of the two tensile tests is reported to have a brittle fracture in the weld metal, both fail in the weld metal. Min tensile stress for this material is 485 MPa the tests results are 650 and 696 MPa (the brittle one). Both side bends are reported as being ok...

Joint welding of Titanium using PTA process

Has anybody had any success or experience with joint welding of Titanium using PTA? I am looking at the possibility of attaching a trailing shroud to the torch. The few enquiries I have made thus far, nobody has heard of this being done.

Welding Titanium GR1 to GR 12

I have a repair where I need to join GR1 to GR12. The application is cladding over carbon steel. Both Ti grades are bonded to the carbon steel and I plan to replace a small section which has failed in service due bad welding practise. The repair weld would laid on to a GR12 backing bar in the...

    Porosity welding super duplex

Will the inclusion of CO2 cause porosity?

    Bevel Weld Symbol

Agreed. Butt joint is full penetration unless indicated otherwise.

    Porosity welding super duplex

I am having an issue with porosity welding super duplex. I have never come across this before. With process of elimination I feel my issue is procedural rather than gas (type or lack of coverage), contaminants, nasty base material or welding consumable, welding machine. Base Material- UNS...

Hull Fillet Welding Scallop fit up

I have worked in a dock yard doing ship repair for a few years. I would always scallop out the gussets. You need to read IACS No47. All the good info is contained in this code. All shipping classification societies use this as a base standard for repairs and new builds.

    Shielding Gas for Alloy 625

I am going to run a PQR joining 625 (solution annealed) to itself using NiCrMo-3 filler. GTAW in the root and deposit 6mm of weld metal. Then GMAW-Pulse for the remainder. The test plates will be 40mm thick and double U Preps will be machined at 60 deg included. What shielding gas is...

    Welding in an enclosure (bubble)

Thanks for the info. I have had another go. I was able to get oxygen down to 0.03% (just purge ran the purge for longer) I was then able to weld without suppling the torch with shielding gas and get a nice shinny finish on the Ti.

    Welding in an enclosure (bubble)

The workshop has a bubble which has been collecting dust. There is a Ti job on the books so I thought it would be good idea to get it out and set it up. After filling with bubble with 100% Ar, the purge meter reading oxygen 0.5%, I ran a bead with GTAW on some carbon steel which produced...

    Localised Solution Annealing Duplex Casting

Hi, I have a casting made to ASTM A890 1A, Duplex Stainless. The casting has failed hydro testing, a weld repair has been made. I know Solution annealing is required. The question has been raised to conduct a workshop localised PWHT, heating to above 1100 deg C followed by quenching (buckets...

PTA Tungsten Carbide overlay on 27%Cr Steel

EdStainless, base material thickness will be greater than 2 inches. The overlay will cover the entire surface area of base material exposed to the working media in service, therefore negating the loss of corrosion resistance. Can you explain more on suppressing the formation of the secondary...

PTA Tungsten Carbide overlay on 27%Cr Steel

Does anybody see an issues with welding a Tungsten Carbide (40/60 Ni based) overlay onto an a Ferritic steel 27%Cr? I am looking to start up some trials to achieve 3mm overlay height in one pass. The base metal will be > 50mm thick. I am thinking of starting with the following: PTA process...
