Fabricating a part with oriented polymer chains

I appreciate your replies. I was thinking about making the disc with a different approach: By using the thin fibers of the Nylon, which surely are oriented in the longitudinal direction, and press them into a circular or conical die and then annealed it to keep the shape. Is it a feasible process?

Fabricating a part with oriented polymer chains

Hi, I am thinking about the possibility of making a part from PA6 or 6/6 with a highly oriented structure. I mean I need to have, for example, a disk with all the polymer chains inside it pointed toward its center. Is this possible? The size of the part would be around 4 inches.

Different length of a polymeric string at a certain temperature in the cooling and heating phases

@btrueblood If it was the case, I guess there would be the same lag for both the cooling and heating, so it wasn't such a difference in the Temp-Disp plot. Am I correct?

Different length of a polymeric string at a certain temperature in the cooling and heating phases

@IRstuff Thank you for the paper. I went through the paper. But it just proposed a model for hysteresis without a physical explanation.

Different length of a polymeric string at a certain temperature in the cooling and heating phases

@rickfischer51 let me explain the figure a little bit. It shows only one actuation cycle with a heating phase in the top part of each trajectory and the cooling phase in the bottom. each plot, with its particular color, corresponds to a different actuation current, as they are indicated in the...

Different length of a polymeric string at a certain temperature in the cooling and heating phases

@rickfischer51 Thank you for your reply. I went to 90C which is beyond the glass transition of Nylon 6/6 in 15 seconds and then let it cool down in still air. It took around 30 seconds for the string to reach its initial temperature. Regarding the moisture effect, I repeated the test for three...

Different length of a polymeric string at a certain temperature in the cooling and heating phases

Dear Engineers, I am currently working on finding a model for a specific type of polymeric actuators. A linear motion is generated by heating a string made of Nylon 6/6. I heat my actuator and then let it cool down to the room temperature and measure its length. When I plotted the...

    Extreme Temperature Rotary Seal

Thank you very much dear fellows. I will follow your hints to find the best solution.

    Extreme Temperature Rotary Seal

Thank you for the reply. No I have not think about that. It may seem very elementary question but it would help me a lot. can you please give me some hints on packing? Can it handle rotation or it is just for static sealing?

    Extreme Temperature Rotary Seal

Hi all, I am looking for a sealing solution for isolating a pressurized air cavity (75 PSI) from the outside. A shaft is to come out of the cavity and it should be sealed to prevent the air from exiting. The rotation speed and duty cycle is low (10 RPM). The temperature of the cavity is high...

    Enzymatic Deinking

Thank you so so much. Could you please give me some hint on how to find used plants? Is there any website or special advertising on used deinking plants? I think the best way is to start with a conventional and established method and then doing R&D.

    Enzymatic Deinking

Hi engineers, I am working on a paper recycling startup. My aim is to establish a deinking plant, which I assumed to be a key for recycling printed paper wastes. I have searched for the deinking technologies and it seems that there are two main methods: chemical-mechanical (floating, washing...

Minimum Required Stress on the Mechanical Packing

Dear engineers, I am going to use graphite packing around a shaft to isolate a cavity from the outside. The shaft should go through the wall of a high pressure cavity (70 PSI). I chose a Klinger 40 package but I can not find any clue in the catalog or their website on the required pre-stress on...

    very high temperature flexible coupling

Dear fellow engineers, I need a flexible coupling for my mechanism. The shafts are not very big (2-3 cm in diameter). My main challenge is the ambient temperature which is up to 480 F (250 C). Do you know any supplier who has such couplings? the misalignment is not very high. I do not expect...

How to fix length of a universal shaft spline?

Is there any experience with universal shaft?

How to fix length of a universal shaft spline?

Hi friends, I am considering the use of universal shaft between two parallel shafts. The casings of the input and output are not precisely built and I need to adjust the length of the universal shaft to install them. The spline shaft solve this problem but I may have trouble with the vibration...
