Dear Engieers:
Thank you all for your feedback. I joined this job only six months ago, and I plan to stay for at least three years to ensure it reflects well on my resume. Afterward, I intend to look for another company. Having been out of college for 12 years and working at five different...
Hello, Engineer.
I am currently working on creating a gasket drawing for a heat exchanger cover and need some guidance on obtaining precise measurements. I have attached a picture of the cover, showing the shape and features required for the gasket. My question is: What is the best and most...
Thank you so much for replying to this post. The company makes custom made gasket per customer provided drawings using rectangular gasket sheets and the cutting machine. Thanks
Hello Everyone,
I have 12 years of experience in engineering and hold a Professional Engineer (PE) license in Mechanical Engineering.
About five months ago, I started a new position with a smaller company that has 35 employees. While the pay is good, the work has been very repetitive and...
Hello, I would like to ask about spiral wound gaskets that have winding only, without any outer or inner rings.
Do standard sizes exist for these winding-only gaskets based on provided pipe size and rating?
For instance, what are the Inner Diameter (ID), Outer Diameter (OD), and Thickness...
Dear all,
I graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering in 2012 and since then I have undergone six job changes with my most recent position lasting 10 months. Currently, I am two months into my current role and am actively seeking a new opportunity.
The primary motivation for my job...
Hello everyone,
I am curious about your experiences with Vulcanized O-Rings compared to One-piece molded O-rings for non-standard o-rings. Have you encountered any failures with Vulcanized O-Rings? Your insights would be appreciated. In one of the instance, our vendor is quoting Vulcanized...
Hello All,
We have vertical turbine water pump that has cast iron parts and we are thinking to coat them. We have two options. Can you recommend, based on your past expereince, which one can provide more reliable long term resistance against corrosion. Coal tar epoxy coating or skotchkote 134?
TugboardEng:
Thank you for providing your feedback. Can you explain why roundness is important and what is the max out of roundness we can have? This is a 12" OD bearing so we should have slight room out of roundness. Can you please share the vendor name?
JS:
I came up with those numbers like...
Hello All,
We have a spherical type babbitt sleeve bearing that is oversized on ID. The clearance between shaft OD and bearing ID should be 0.007". But we have 0.015". The OD is also undersize. Since the OD is spherical, it is difficult to repair.
In order to fix the OD, we have two options...
Artisi, JJpellin, LittleInch, Darn Samy, Estainless & Tugboat,
Thank you all for your comments and feedback. You are all very knowledgeable and experienced.
Regarding process operating conditions, the process is the process and nothing can be done. The right thing would be to replace the...
Artisi:
Sorry for late response. It was a crazy weekend for me. Here is the response to your questions asked on Oct 12th.
-Pump manufacturer is Pacific Pumps (now called Flowserve).
-It is diffuser type barrel pump with element/bundle inside the barrel (API designation BB5).
-I don’t have...
Artisi:
The operating point will stay the same. You can call it bad original design impeller or necessity to run the pump off from BEP. I know it will happen again but what material will resist this kind of damage the most and last the longest out of all materials?
EdStainless:
The material of...
Thank you all for replying.
The application is application. Can you recommend a material for this impeller that has cavitation resistance against this kind of damage and has high corrosion resistant. In other words, what material will resist this kind of damage the most? Edstainless?
TugboatEng:
Thank you for your reponse. That is a good observation. Thank you!
LittleInch:
The process fluid is jet water and pump is used in decoking process of refinery, where the remains of crude oil from distillation is refined further (coker unit).
Below is the pump sectional highlighted...
Hello Dear Engineers,
As you may have noticed from my other posts, I am working to study pump components damage mechanism. I found another impeller damage due possible cavitation and wanted to share with you to get your feedback on damage mechanisms. This is suction impeller (first stage) for...
TugboatEng/Pierreick,
Thank you for replying to this post. After disassembling the pump, we noticed a lot more damages inside the pump like broken impeller, broken impeller rings and throttle sleeve. The shaft was bent by 0.034" (TIR)when checked on V-blocks. I am thinking there was severe...
