Chattering of Safety Valve based on oversizing

We are procuring PSV from one of reputed vendor where there is a remarkable difference between effective and actual discharge of orifice. Vendor has selected "R" type orifice as per API520, with effective discharge area as 10322mm2. However actual discharge area for the same is specified as...

    PWHT for Low Alloy Steel.

COMPRESS gives warning for plate material only. Exemptions in Code are for circumferential welding of pipe and tubes for certain cases and thermocouple attachment weld. Do you have any interpretation about plate material where it is exempted? I think for all thickness of plate material PWHT is...

    PWHT for Low Alloy Steel.

Thank you all for response. Mech2325, Table UCS-56-4, General Note (a), in ASME Sec.VIII, Div.1 has reference for PWHT mandatory.

    PWHT for Low Alloy Steel.

Adding to above, which means my vessel shell, dished head, girth flange and blind cover entire to be PWHT. Is there any more conditions which can exempt PWHT for this situation?

    PWHT for Low Alloy Steel.

Mech2325, thank you. As I see in Table UCS-56-4 applicable in this case, General Note (a) says PWHT is mandatory in all conditions, exempted for certain pipe and tube cases and ERW case. Which means other than exemptions it is PWHT mandatory for vessel made up of SA-387 Gr.5, Cl.2. please help...

PWHT, is it mandatory for low alloy steels such as SA-387 Gr.5, Cl.2 plates for all thicknesses? In my project vendor has provided PWHT for all such cases for entire vessel. please someone guide.

Good ENgineering practice - Tank API vs ASME

Hi Idrus, In my opinion if FE Analysis to be carried out, it is better to be performed for entire tank. I am considering design standard as, API620 (no ASME consideration at all)for entire equipment. API 620 temperature limit is applicable for entire tank and hence to design same tank for...

Good ENgineering practice - Tank API vs ASME

This is API620 tank and not ASME vessel for sure. However as design temperature is beyond API limits need additional thermal analysis (FEA).

reduction in tube thickness due to over expansion

Thank you EdStainless for your quick reply. Please let me correct my question above. Actually my vendor has come with excuse that he has over expanded the tubes lengthwise. Which means it is expanded beyond the inner face of tubesheet. Even though thinning of tube is not much in this area (just...

Acceptability of Kopp & Sayer method of calculation for thick expansion joint?

As per TEMA ninth edition, RCB-8 Flexible shell elements, for design of thick expansion joint Finite Element Method is applied. Does it mean if we are using TEMA and ASME as design standard and code respectively, we can not apply Kopp & Sayer method for design of thick expansion joint? What...

Allowable stress for SA-789 (UNS S32750) tube material of size 1.25"

Subject data is not available in ASME IID, also no size limitation in ASME Sec IIA. What allowable values can be used for these tubes? IS it ok if we use values for 1"size tubes? or chaning the tube size to 1" from 1.25"is the only option?
