API 620 conical roof thickness calculation questions

Another question, while I'm on the subject. If I use 5.10.3.3 to determine a required thickness, should the corrosion allowance be added to it?

API 620 conical roof thickness calculation questions

Speaking of supported cone roofs, I assume the roof weight should include any rafters, girders, and columns. For the zero internal pressure case, it doesn't look like any of the 5.10.3 sections apply. Would it be best to use 5.10.3.3 in this case?

API 620 conical roof thickness calculation questions

Should the roof live load and snow load be included in the roof weight when calculating the unit force T1 (equation 8 of 5.10.2.5)? For example, suppose I have a tank with a 100 foot diameter tank with conical roof with alpha = 80, plate density = 0.2833, and internal pressure of 0.1 psi. The...

    API 620 umbrella roof design

Before I posted I found http://mycommittees.api.org/standards/techinterp/refequip/Shared%20Documents/620ti.pdf However, it only says the following with regards to umbrella roofs: Edition: 9th - Feb. 1996 Section: 1.2.1 Inquiry No.: 620-I-10/00 Question 1: Does Section 1.2.1 prevent tanks with...

    API 620 umbrella roof design

Are umbrella roofs allowed for API 620 and, if so, what equations should be used in their design?

API 650: Are rafter supported roofs considered self-supporting?

Looks like I'll need to show the senior engineer this definition: 5.10.1.a: A supported cone roof is a roof formed to approximately the surface of a right cone that is supported principally either by rafters on girders and columns or by rafters on trusses with or without columns.

API 650: Are rafter supported roofs considered self-supporting?

Should API 650 section V.7.2 be applied if the roof has rafters but no columns? My vote is no, but a senior engineer here says the opposite. Any thoughts or clarification would be appreciated.

    API 620 Footnote 16

In section 5 of API 620 there are several references to Footnote 16 (e.g. "NOTE: See Footnote 16 for information applicable to Equation (10)" on page 5-21). The only Footnote 16 I can find is in section 4 on page 4-10: "If better grades of bolts are used, higher bolt stress values are not...

    API 650 12th Ed. Addendum 1 update to S.3.6.6

The Errata from July 2013 (which ironically was when I started working in this field) had the replacement pages: "This errata corrects editorial errors in the twelfth edition of API Standard 650. Replace the following pages with the attached:" The corrected pages are then in the errata and can...

    API 650 12th Ed. Addendum 1 update to S.3.6.6

I can get the Errata, from both Techstreet and IHS Global, but neither one has the replacement pages like in the past. The Errata just lists all of the changes and will require a rather tedious manual updating of our code document. Previously it was fairly simple to just replace the changed...

    API 650 12th Ed. Addendum 1 update to S.3.6.6

That's what I was thinking. The next errata apparently came out earlier this month. However, it doesn't address this section. Also, they were kind enough to not include the replacement pages as they have in the past. I guess I'll have to modify our copy with a red pen...

    API 650 12th Ed. Addendum 1 update to S.3.6.6

Addendum 1, which came out this September, updated section S.3.6.6 so that the old M.6 requirement to modify according to temperature the yield stress used in calculating the unstiffened shell height for stainless steels is no longer required. Section X.3.7.2 (duplex steels) was updated to...

    Warping Constant formula for channels

Yes, that works much better with the new formula. Thanks!

    Warping Constant formula for channels

I am trying to find a good formula for Warping Constant for C channel sections. This formula will be used in conjunction with AISC 360-10 section F2. In another thread (thread723-206373) I saw a reference to xcalcs.com where a formula is given along with sample results. However, I have yet to be...
