Addendum 1, which came out this September, updated section S.3.6.6 so that the old M.6 requirement to modify according to temperature the yield stress used in calculating the unstiffened shell height for stainless steels is no longer required. Section X.3.7.2 (duplex steels) was updated to include modifying the Modulus of Elasticity, but left in the requirement to modify yield stress. Did the API make a mistake in removing the M.6 requirement from S.3.6.6? It doesn't seem right to keep it for carbon and duplex steels, but take it out for stainless.

I believe that this was an unintentional deletion. Until the next edition, addendum or errata, I'd use temperature reduced yield strength when calculating the unstiffened height.

That's what I was thinking.

The next errata apparently came out earlier this month. However, it doesn't address this section. Also, they were kind enough to not include the replacement pages as they have in the past. I guess I'll have to modify our copy with a red pen.

I thought you could download and print the erratas from IHS Global or Techstrest for free. I tried it an seemed to get it, using your link. You were not able to get the Errata?

I can get the Errata, from both Techstreet and IHS Global, but neither one has the replacement pages like in the past. The Errata just lists all of the changes and will require a rather tedious manual updating of our code document. Previously it was fairly simple to just replace the changed pages. Now I'll either have to write the changes in or break out the scissors and tape.

Maybe it's just the Addenda that have replacement pages?

The Errata from July 2013 (which ironically was when I started working in this field) had the replacement pages:

"This errata corrects editorial errors in the twelfth edition of API Standard 650.
Replace the following pages with the attached:"

The corrected pages are then in the errata and can be easily inserted into the base document. With the last Errata, there's no easy way to update it.

Correction: the version on the API web site does not have the pages, but it may be worth checking there in the future.
