In API 1104 the only time between pass that is an essential variable is between the root and the hot pass. See para 5.4.2.8. It can be allowed to cool down and left after the hot pass. Just need to make sure it is properly supported to prevent cracking, follow the WPS preheat, and properly clean...
9.3.9.2 refers to the porosity as depicted in Fig 19 and 20 shows the terms can be used interchangeably- not sure that's even a word- either way they are splitting hairs and should have larger concerns. JMO
From memory, its 4 nick breaks for the branch 90 deg apart. Butt weld jumps up after 12" so if they test on 14" pipe there is twice the number required than if they test on 12"
Weldstan is correct. We encourage our facilty fabricators to utilize ASME sect 9 procedures for our facilties that fall under B31.4. We have to review fewer procedures and the welders have to take fewer qualification test because of the way the 1104 groupings are.
There is another consideration to look at that can contribute to the fastener corrosion. After manufacturers switched to ACQ instead of CCA for lumber treatment most lumber was treated with ACQD as it was probably cheaper. What most people including reputable contractors weren't made aware of...
The API website will have the pertinent references listed i believe I found them listed on the recert page but its been over a year since I looked at it. the exam should be 25 questions and will cover any updates in the code during the last 6 yrs. Its open book and no study guide.
The manual UT tech should be able to determine if he has the room to get the sound thru the weld. They very well may get a signal at the gap where the RF plate is gapped, however simple trig will tell them if thats where the signal is coming from. If i am looking at the detail correctly (4)and...

I will add in a quick thought here. As you did not state what type of work this is for. If this work is for a pump station or a compressor station I would go with ASME procedures. These facilities are governed by B31.4 and 31.8 and both allow procedures to be written to 1104 or Section IX...
If I happen to learn of a colleagues pay I do 3 things. I do the job I was hired for at the rate I agreed to do it for no one forced you to accept that wage. I keep that information in my back pocket for an appropriate time- I always felt review/ salary adjustment came once a year unless...
For some they may not have enough work to justify a full-time peerson( in there eyes), and for others they may want the protection of having an unbiased 3rd party, and some insurance companies may require it to be 3rd party as well. There are multiple reasons and its usually different for every...
IR-192 is good up to about 3" and cobalt 60 can penetrate 7-8". Obviously as you near the upper limits resolution can be challenging along with the increasing need for back scatter protection as the exposure times increase. We have used Cobalt 60 on many section 8 vessels in the 4-5" material...

I believe they have to be taken at an API test site. I do not believe they can be taken on-line but I may be mistaken. check out api.org it...
