Hi Matthias,
You're welcome! Actually I went for surface modeling because it was what suggested by Kyle but after reviewing the video, I realized the answer to your question was in fact yes. You can do it directly using the loft tool.

Hi
This icon means the touch screen mode is activated. There should be a hand-looking icon somewhere in the quick-access toolbar. Click on it to deactivate the touch mode. (Search "Touch mode" in the command finder if you can't find it)

Hi Matthias
I made this video to help you with your project (sorry, no narration).

Hope it will help you. Do not hesitate if you have any questions.

Thanks John and PrintScaffold !
John: I wasn't aware it was possible with Lightweight Section views in PMI. So we are half way there! Would it be an herculean task to make it available to the regular drafting section views?
PrintScaffold: Thanks for the link! I will try it when I will have an...
Hello all
My 2 cents:
- Use the mouse wheel to increment values in input box (as in Solid Edge)
- Ability to redefine projected views in drafting
- Associative datums and notes in Drafting (Solid Edge did it in ST8, https://youtu.be/BxzRE72FINs?t=202)
- A better way to organize items in part...
Thanks drawoh
I'm just doing that at the moment. But what is worrying me is the other considerations I mentioned above (deformation during assembly, handling, transportation...?)
Sorry for the fuzzy sketch, the screws are not sticking out like I depicted, the front side is easily accessible...
Thanks Kenat!
Yes, when mounted using the side pads, the part ends up located by the threaded holes. But from the front, the central pilot diameter will take precedence. I like your idea but I fear the reference dim will not be well received here since it will lead to an entry in the...
Hello everyone
I think the question stated above said it all but a little backstory anyway:
We are about to provide to our customers interface drawing to depict maximum outline, mounting points and other specifications of our finish products. Until now the idea was to use a lot of reference...
Interesting case! I'm wondering if datum B should be on one of the side face instead. This way, for each section, the tolerance zone will be parallel to datum A and then datum B will define unambiguously the orientation. Am I thinking this right?
Your file's link is...
Thanks guys for this interesting discussion. I pick up a lot of good lessons for my future drawings.
For this particular case, the bore and the flat bottom face are the functionally relevant features. The threaded holes are for mounting an accesory part for which the orientation is not very...
I concur with Kenat. We only use it for sheet metal parts. Although some machined parts are designed with a specific stock size in mind, we don't mentioned it for cases where the supplier want to start from a different size.

Hi SDETERS
My idea is to describe the functional requirements of the final part then the raw material (ie the remaining as-cast features) will be checked against the machined datums. Since we aren't producing the parts in-house, the goal is to let the process expertise to the supplier. My only...
CheckerHater
1. How far datum feature [B] is allowed to be off-center?
2. Center of what?
That's why I needed a complete set of datums so that the as-cast features would be checked against them (basically making sure the functional requirements are satisfied) . This way I indirectly ensure...
SeasonLee, CheckerHater, Greenimi
I perfectly agree with you all, the simultaneous requierement rule will applied in this case but may be I didn't state clearly my question. So I hope you don't mind if I formulate it in a different way.
Let's imagine the raw part was bought from one vendor...
Thanks for your input Greenimi
I didn't think this way early because we have separate drawings for cast and machined parts and we used to relate them using datum targets. Now we are checking the as-cast surfaces to machined datums in other to ensure critical clearance or mimunum material where...
Greenimi : "So, if you control (position) everything to A primary and B secondary, you don't need the tertiary datum feature."
Do you mean simultaneous requirement apply in this case? I don't have any other features referenced to A and B. In the final part they are all as cast but I see your...
