    Sizing the right pump

Thank you to everyone who responded to my thread. Like most projects it comes down to money and how much risk the owner is willing to take on.

High flow with Low head pump

lilliput1 - Ground water limits the depth of the pond. georgeverghese - The plan is to place these pumps in a inlet sump. However, there is always a chance of some type of solid making its way to the pump and cause clogging.

High flow with Low head pump

I would like to use a trash pump but I do not think a trash pump will meet the discharge rate and the static head requirements. 1500 gpm @ 10ft head

    Sizing the right pump

I started this thread before having access to HydroCAD to do the model. Now that I have the model, I have answered my own question.

High flow with Low head pump

will any of these pumps pass a 2" solid?

High flow with Low head pump

    Great! Thank you

High flow with Low head pump

I have to pump a large volume of water out of a pond quickly during a storm event to prevent flooding. The pond cannot be enlarged so I am going to install a pump with a high flow rate with low head conditions. The target discharge rate is 1500 gpm with a static head + friction head of less...

    Sizing the right pump

I'm pretty confident with my maximum rainfall loads. I have purchased a HydroCAD Licence and have been making great progress with my design. I have determined two adequate pump sizes (40 hp and 50 hp) for my design based on pond volume, total head and flows from my drainage basin. My design...

    Sizing the right pump

There is no park owner. Each building / lot is privately owned. I have discussed this issue with the county engineer and the owner. The county engineer claims it is not their responsibility and the owner has decided that he would much rather pay the money to fix the issue than pay money for...

    Sizing the right pump

The top of my pond is at the same elevation of the flow line of the ditch I am discharging to. This site really is a mess and the only way to remove the water from the site is via a pump.

    Install Pump to prevent flooding

psmart - This is great information since HydroCAD is my new favorite engineering software. I am in a time crunch and some answers are needed immediately. Can you say if I'm headed in the right direction from the calcs provided above?

    Sizing the right pump

I have a storm event that will produce: Runoff volume = 104,999 Gallons Runoff Rate = 7,000 gpm My detention Pond can hold 94,097 gallons Pond will fill = 13.44 minutes I believe that all I need to to is pump the difference between the runoff volume and pond volume in 13.44 minutes or less...

    Install Pump to prevent flooding

I agree. I have room to construct a detention pond with a volume of approximately 12,000 cu. ft.. With a runoff rate of approximately 9000 gallons per minute, the pond will be filled in about 10 minutes. This is where I get a little confused. I feel that by constructing the detention pond I...

    Install Pump to prevent flooding

I am currently working with a property owner who owns a building in an industrial park. When he bought the building he did not realize that during heavy rains his building will flood. This is because his neighbors filled in the drainage ditches to expand their parking lots, not knowing they were...

Selecting right pump for the job

Artisi - That was my next questions. I will be placing the pump within the sump of a sump to ensure the pump is always submerged under water. Thank you.

Selecting right pump for the job

Thank you all very much for your input on the matter. I have decided to go with HOMA TP 28 pump and am currently working with one of their sales reps to get the setup needed for the job.
