Need help emphasizing dangers of CIP acid/base solutions

Hi All, I've come to a facility that is normalized to unacceptable chemical safety procedures and chemical systems design. To prove my point, it required a heated battle to convince the Ops team AND the HSE contact that a phosphoric acid/citric acid solution leak from overhead piping in a busy...

xPost from Pharma: Sanitary Clamp Replacement

It would be near impossible to determine where the clamp ferrules were sourced from as we have many different skid providers. The clamps are from a few different vendors, but mostly Alfa Laval. Torque wrenches have not been used on these clamps to date so I couldn't imagine they have been...

xPost from Pharma: Sanitary Clamp Replacement

This is an xPost from the Pharma thread since the forum looks pretty dead. I appreciate your help! Hi All, I have been tasked to head a project to reduce the risk of contamination in our bio-pharma production facility. The main goal is to roll out the use of torque wrenches to use on sanitary...

    Standard Defining Appropriate Overpressure Protection

After several years in the Industrial Gas industry, I am now working in a pharmaceutical facility that makes use of many positive displacement pumps. There are several instances where a positive displacement pump does not have over-pressure protection. Since pharmaceutical facilities do not...

Electric Field Proximity Switch Failure - What Gives?

Hello All, I have recently experienced the failure of a "linear magnetic effect detector". This detector was used to confirm rotation of a spinning bar that had magnets on both ends. This proximity switch worked well for nearly two years but just recently had been failing to detect the rotation...

Ammonia Tuning for Injections Rates to the Ammonia Injection Grid

All, I am working on a competitive bid for a potential customer which includes a replacement-in-kind of an Aq. NH3 vaporizer skid that has met its end of life. The item below was stated in their RFP: Could anybody please provide their opinion on what "Ammonia Tuning for injection rates to the...

Ammonia Tuning for Injections Rates to the Ammonia Injection Grid

Good question! Since clarifications are handed out to all bidders, I always do as much research to find an answer before asking a clarifying question. Unnecessarily asking a clarifying question may aid a competitor. If I can't find an answer in a day or so, I would then reach out to the bidder.

    Motor Construction in Laymans Terms

jraef, thank you once again for your very thorough answers. It has just dawned on me that the motor nameplate states 460V - this may sound crazy but I did not recognize that the nameplate was listed 20V below the MCC supply voltage. Also, understanding that "NEMA MG-1" means +/- 10% at nominal...

    Motor Construction in Laymans Terms

I am mostly interested in the internal changes here. Are there MORE coils installed, or are the coils thicker? I have trouble finding information on motor construction because a lot of material regarding car motors comes up. This video is a great overview of motor construction Link. Internally...

    Motor Construction in Laymans Terms

Hello All, I am a chemical engineer and not familiar with the intricacies of electrical components, but do know enough to do a job. I am currently bidding a job and a skid vendor is offering me either a 25 HP or 30 HP motor. I have two general questions: 1) The power supply is 460V/3PH/60Hz...

Shaft Critical Speed - In Layman Terms

jgKRI, that is a great response and it very much does make sense to me. Now that I understand they are requesting the brand name 'BLO Bearings', could you explain what the balance of their request means? "Static Oil Lubricating Tunnel Block"? My best guess is that the bearing system will just...
