For anyone using this thread as a search for nitride/nitreg/tufftride. interally have a great mechanical/chemical analysis if their materials and exaplain if they can be nitrided well or not.

Kennethhp superb!
I have been researching the process for some time which got me to the point, however what you have just written is more valuable than any website i could find as they all are just spruking themselves.
attached is an image of the part in question. as you can see one side is...
Hi All,
This is a pretty back to basics question for you but I've been delving into the world of Nitrex/Nitreg ONC Black / Tufftride QPQ.
I have had some components (1045 steel) Tufftride & QPQ treated (in thailand). I'm a little worried my supplier has just black oxide applied to them though...
Thanks Swall and WKTaylor,
Your questions are valid WKTaylor, but due to external influences i have to maintain my current course. But I will use this as a reference if an improvement is needed.
Definitely not the way i would like to engineer, but sometimes its not my decision.
Cheers
Thanks tbuelna, arunmrao and swall.
The material our supplier has noted is ADC12, which i think is the 383. It is good to hear that the porosity might not be an issue for my application. However on another issue with the same parts i was intending on anodising them but a few test pieces i had...
Hi All,
Apologies if this has been a topic previously covered.
I have a product i am designing and of which a few parts will be Al Cast.
I have a few other engineers here who have backgrounds in the processes however two gentlemen who are both from credible backgrounds have conflicting...
thanks TVP, its a 50mm OD 44mmID tube, so relatively thin wall. My suppliers of hard chrome say the high temperatures involved will warp the tube... not having any previous experience in this situation i don't exactly disagree, yet it is good to get more than one opinion.
essentially it runs on two Teflon dry universal bearings, the system runs much like a hydraulic ram. the guide which holds the bearings is 6061 AL with an oring and scraper .
Hi All,
I have been looking into how we can drop the costs on a component we need at work. Basically its a mild steel tube with hard chrome plating on the OD as it is a sealed and bearing surface.
I got a little excited about the potential of Nitride (ONC black) but have since found out it is...
