Why do some washers have a countersink option?

Comparing the NAS1149 series and NAS1587 series washers, the NAS1587 has a countersunk washer 'for use under bolt head' option. Why is that? Isn't plain good enough?

How do you know how to calculate the flatness of a surface?

I passed the 2009 technologist test and I have a pretty good understanding of what each geometric characteristic means. But generally how do you guys know how to calculate the flatness of a surface that attaches to a mating part or rather what tolerance to put in the FCF? Anyone have good...

Why would two mating parts with a bolt ever need a clearance at worst case scenario?

If I have two surfaces with holes, and I calculate at worst case scenarios that they have clearance of 0 after an installation of a bolt, is there an issue? Let's say I have a .25 bolt, and my holes at virtual conditions are .255 and .265, I then have a worst case clearance of .010. But why not...

What does the "Allow Selection of Hidden Wireframe" toggle do?

This is a fairly popular toggle, but I cannot figure out what it is suppose to do. I read the NX documentation, all it says it "Allows curves and edges that are hidden as a result of a display mode to be selected." What exactly is a display mode? If someone can help me clarify this toggle and...

How to make a sketch transparent though features and other sketch features questions?

Sometimes when I have a complicated model, I would like to see older sketch geometry through the latest feature. (I took a screenshot of how it is in CATIA, the white lines are the sketch transparent though the solid body, the solid body is not transparent) How can I quickly determine that...

Difference Between Measure Distance "Minimum vs Minimum Clearance"?

well the MINIMUM is defined as "Calculates the minimum distance between the selected objects along the specified vector direction." and so it does require a vector.

Difference Between Measure Distance "Minimum vs Minimum Clearance"?

Thanks. Where can I find more of these relevant snippets on the fundamentals of NX? There's a ton of forums to navigate through. Is there a library of videos?

Difference Between Measure Distance "Minimum vs Minimum Clearance"?

I don't quite understand the explanation in the NX documentation. Both measures require a selection of a vector, so I would assume that both types of measure would measure from the normal of the vector from one side to the other. And could someone help me understand minimum (local) and minimum...

How can I select multiple dimensions to inherit one dimension in a drawing?

Thanks! Why would they hide it like that.

How can I select multiple dimensions to inherit one dimension in a drawing?

The standard "Edit" doesn't display when I right click. The settings options you see when I right click has no mention of "inherit".

How can I select multiple dimensions to inherit one dimension in a drawing?

I know I can do it one at a time, go into every individual dimension and click inherit, but I was wondering if I could select multiple dimensions and do it all at one time. I have one dimension with the right properties and the right tolerances, how can I make multiple dimensions inherit...

How do I learn the tubing workbench? Recommendation of resources?

I'm trying to learn the tubing workbench. Unfortunately, I think it's a bit difficult to learn with limited resources. I work in aerospace, and am quite handy with Part Design and GSD. I've read the embedded help guide (by pressing F1), but there aren't any exercises for me to practice with...

Creating a formula for number of convolutions in a shaft?

Hello, I've seen it done before, but how would I go about creating a formula for generating the number of convolutions (bellows) in a sketch? I know how to create a formula ,but when you have a profile and you want to shaft it around an axis, I'm having difficulty in using parameters and...

    Selection Scope NX 10 Assembly

Hi, Thank you for the images, but I cannot get the subassembly components to display in the quickpick menu (in this image the head_o_ring, reflector, etc), only the subassembly itself (head). When I activate quickpick, it lumps the subassembly into one component and it does not separate it even...

    Selection Scope NX 10 Assembly

When I have "Within Work Part and Component" active, how can I select the actual subcomponent within a subassembly? Using QuickPick, I can select the faces and the Solid Body, but not the actual component itself. So if I highlight a SolidBody belonging to a subcomponent using quickpick, and I...

    Selection Scope NX 10 Assembly

What is the difference between "Within Work Part Only" and "Within Work Part and Component" in the Selection Scope of the assembly module? It seems to do the same thing, and I'm sure there is a difference. Can anyone also tell me a practical application of this? Thanks.

    Question on Datum Reference Plane

http://www.dimcax.com/gdt_web/february-02.htm In the link above (assuming the drawing is correct), why is datum axis C not dimensioned off of datum axis B? Datum axis C is located off the edge, not hole to hole, why is that? Why bother having datum B in the FCF when defining datum C? I thought...

Projecting (or forming) sheet metal feature onto a solid

Hello I have a sheet metal piece that is not formed to assembly. It is a bracket that will sit on a bend of a tube. Is there any function in CATIA that would allow me to form that sheet metal piece onto that tube? It would take a long time to model in GSD and would not be accurate. Thanks.
