Exposure When Permit Issued and Completely Different Structure Built

I'm dealing with a situation where my drawings for Building A were submitted for permit, the permit was issued, and Building B was built. Apparently the Building Department was aware that the building to be built did not match the drawings, but issued the permit anyway. The building is now...

Cripple Stud-to-Header Connection Require 'Bottom' Plate?

Hi, Does a cripple stud-to-header connection require a 'bottom' plate? I've seen openings framed with and without a plate between the header and the cripple studs, but have not had an intelligent conversation as to why. Can anyone help with that? Thanks!

    Ledger to Wall Stud Connection

I don't have a good answer; that is how the detail is drawn.

    Ledger to Wall Stud Connection

Update... There is no appetite for a lateral connection using the two threaded rods, but I think I can get this detail, based on the Simpson Strong-Tie's 750lb assembly, approved. Does anyone see any issues? Ledger-to-blocking fasteners are not shown for clarity.

    Ledger to Wall Stud Connection

@dhengr and @KootK Are you stating that the ledger can be attached to horizontal blocking between the wall studs? I will provide a supplemental lateral connection per IRC R507.9.2.

    Ledger to Wall Stud Connection

I thought there was a code reference prohibiting attaching a ledger to something toe-nailed, but I may be incorrect.

Ledger will be installed over the wall sheathing. Sorry, I wasn't clear.

    Ledger to Wall Stud Connection

There is no desire to flash around the landing joists. This is a case of 'the other engineer didn't have a problem with it'. The other engineer never provided a connection detail and it was built with the ledger screwing into horizontal blocking toe-nailed between the wall studs.

    Ledger to Wall Stud Connection

New construction. Please see the sketch showing the attic truss bottom chords and floor sheathing.

    Ledger to Wall Stud Connection

Unfortunately, no. Doing so introduces reductions in lag screw capacity due to proximity to stud end. I can't move the ledger up any, either.

    Ledger to Wall Stud Connection

Hi, I've been tasked with designing a ledger to wall stud connection for an exterior stair landing. The landing spans from the ledger to a post-supported beam. I can get the numbers to work with 1/4" lag screws, but I am hesitant to proceed as the only literature I have on a similar connection...

    Collector Truss-to-Top Plate Connection / L-Shaped Building

Hi, I'm looking at an single-story, L-shaped, wood-framed building and the potential need for a collector truss. What I'm having trouble with is the collector truss-to-top plate connection on the side opposite the re-entrant corner. If my collector force is say 3kip, what connection or...
