Yes you can use a cable element and apply uniform cable load in that in order to get its catenary deformation. The load is defined in the same form where cable geometry is configured.

Please check the design overwrites for each elemnt. Moreover you can disable seismic checks in order to have a clear look of the failure of the elements and then re-enable it.

I think that the unbraced length of the column shall be adjusted, as you said, but priot this action you will have to decide if the column is sway or non-sway. Non-sway columns will have an ubraced length smaller than the actual one. On the other hand sway columns have greater unbraced length...
