I went down the rabbit hole and the only way I can wrap my head around all of OP's threads is that it seems like OP is trying to write a book of some sort, and really is just looking to see if some of their details can be vaguely realistic??
If this is meant to be taken realistically: - No. a...
I've only played around with this a little, but it looks like it'll make my Mathcad sheets obsolete from the looks of it!
Are the licenses going to be per computer, or do you plan on allowing floating seats?
@dik
We actually are planning on doing a cap plate for the top rail with just a couple of fasteners now. We still need to keep the vertical plate to attach our infill, but will not be attaching it to the wall the way it's shown in the sketch I provided earlier in the thread.
Adjusting the...
Thanks for all of the input!
The plan is going to be to size up a hilti sleeve anchor rated for hollow brick and outline any necessary geometry constraints!
@XR250
Thanks for the response! What is driving your decision? I am a young engineer - so I would say that I do not qualify for "Engineering judgement" yet.. Have you just seen them work in your experience or does it not concern you since it is not under constant loading? is it a probability...
Hey everyone!
I have a customer who wants to support a guardrail with brick veneer. The reasoning is that the brick is already installed and removing the brick to attach to the wall behind is not cost effective at this point in the project. See below for a very rough sketch that is not to...
@celt83
When using profis to analyze anchors over metal deck, I've always considered my slab thickness for the profis input to be equal to the thickness of concrete above the flutes (3" in this case) which ends up limiting me to using anchors with a max embed depth of like 1-3/4 or something...
Thanks for all the replies!
Dik, that sounds like a very interesting experiment!
La Belle, did they anchors look like post installed anchors? Maybe my ignorance in material sciences is becoming blatantly obvious, but I wonder if there is a difference between casting aluminum in concrete...
Hello Everyone!
We're looking at a job where the client would like an aluminum guardrail core drilled into a concrete curb. I've always heard that aluminum in contact with concrete is not good.. Could anyone explain to me what exactly is going on when aluminum comes into contact with concrete...
Is there any concern about driving all that heat into the concrete through the post installed rebar when you're welding it to the plate? I'd imagine it'd crack up the concrete at the anchor point.
JStructsteel:
It would not block the entry way, but rather cause people to take a more direct route to access the entry way. See the screen shot below of a quick markup:
The concern is rather than approaching the door directly, people may come in from the side and potentially hit their head...
Thanks for all the help everyone! There is a lot of really good insight here and plenty for me to ensure we are taking all appropriate safety measures into account during our design!
Hello!
I am currently looking for information pertaining to tripping hazards, specifically how tall an obstruction can be before it is no longer considered a tripping hazard. I have seen plenty of information showing that a 3/8" or 1/2" deviation in the walking surface constitutes a tripping...
Thanks for the response Lo!
DG 11 defines linear as "straight in plan view", so while the stair may be interrupted with landings, it is still a straight line when in plan view. My question is pertaining to what type of design considerations I need to take into account when analyzing a curved...
Hello!
I am trying to work my way through a vibration check for a staircase. Typically I just page my way through design guide 11 but in this case I am working with a stair that has a curve in it. Design guide 11 has a section that is labeled "Recommended Evaluation Criteria for Linear...
Thanks for the insight everyone!
msquared48: Per ASCE, the railing load must be designed to act in the direction resulting in the greatest impact to the rail structure, so I cannot make the argument that they would be acting in opposite directions from one another.
EZBuilding: Thanks for...
I am looking for some guidance on load combinations for a rooftop guardrail system. The railing consists of 5'-0" wide shoe mounted glass panels with a continuous top cap. ASCE 7-10 ASD load combination 6a indicates that when combining wind load to live load, you can use 1.0*D + 0.75*L +...
