    Modal analysis problems in Abaqus

I've checked surfaces generated by find contact pairs. They all look fine. No surfaces were missed, and they are all defined as surface to surface contact.

    Modal analysis problems in Abaqus

I've used "find contact pairs". This function works well. So I think all parts are attached together properly.

    Modal analysis problems in Abaqus

Hello everyone, I'm doing modal analysis in Abaqus (step type: frequency). Yet the results seem to have some problems. The picture below is mode 1 shape. The result is wrong, it seems that most elements are not deforming. Normally, it should be like this: Boundary condition at the...

Finding an elastic materials with ultra-low elastic modulus and low density

Hello everyone, I'm finding an elastic material that has very very very low elastic modulus, better with low density. (preferred properties are shown in the picture) The closest thing I could find is rubber, but all the elastic modulus I could find from the Internet are still too high. Maybe...

Finding an elastic materials with ultra-low elastic modulus and low density

Hello everyone, I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask, my apologies if it's not. I'm finding an elastic material that has very very very low elastic modulus, better with low density. (preferred properties are shown in the picture) The closest thing I could find is rubber, but all...

    [ASCE7-10] Where does S_DS = 2/3* S_MS come from?

Thank you guys, I think I have a better understanding of this topic.

How can a frame have a single element to represent its overall stiffness?

Yes, the figure has 2 lateral disp. need to be considered. So DOF should be 2, which makes K a 2x2 matrix. If a system has number degree of freedom = N, the size of K matrix would be NxN.

How can a frame have a single element to represent its overall stiffness?

The figure you post has 2 DOF. And yes, generally if we want to focus on lateral displacement, we assume beam is rigid body. Otherwise the K matrix will be more complicated, due to the consideration of DOFs from beam. I'm not sure if my comprehension of this part is correct or not. Hope...

    [ASCE7-10] Where does S_DS = 2/3* S_MS come from?

Thank you for your response :))) I'm a bit confused. So in UBC code, when MCE occurs, the building designed with DBE will use up all it's ductility and then collapse?

    [ASCE7-10] Where does S_DS = 2/3* S_MS come from?

In the seismic code ASCE7-10, the MCE spectral value is specified as S_MS, and DBE as S_DS. Where does the factor 2/3 come from? I know it's like a reduction factor, but does anyone know how the value be specified?

How can a frame have a single element to represent its overall stiffness?

The size of stiffness matrix depends on number degree of freedom. So if a frame stiffness is a single value, I think DOF is lateral displacement.
