    With lateral load, I believe one cable is in tension and the other slack. For the tension cable to resist the lateral load it would have to impart 5 times that lateral load in vertical load on the structure.     Is the truss framing of steel or aluminum? If of aluminum, unless I am mistaken, field welding would have substantially lowered the strength of the material at the weld and would have needed to be accounted for in the design.
