    Parametric Problem: Circular patterns

As a student of SW I have a problem that I need help with. I have seen some great advice in here, but some people don’t explain their problems well enough to advise on, so here goes mine. The problem is with circular patterns and parametrics. Imagine a rectangular plate with 3 or 4 holes in it...

    FORCES

One fixed leg and one pivoted leg. If your jaws were halfway your force on the movable jaw would be double the rams force. eg.100N*X divided by X/2 = 100N*2 = 200N (Force times the distance to the pivot divided by the distance from the pivot to the jaws.) Both legs pivoted. (This is johnboy's...

    unknown plate

Try posting this question over at the "Material Engineers" or "Alloy Engineering" forums, they might be able to help. Good luck Gary

    Stainless steel welding

GTAW (TIG) would be best. Thoriated electrode with pure argon shielding gas, purge the back of the weld as well. DC current. This method is slow but excellent weld properties. For reasonably small jobs. For large welds/jobs I agree with last post by Ron.

Advise on Butt Welding Mild Steel

1-1.5mm wall pipe can be arc welded, use as small a rod as possible 1.6 - 2.5mm, and low amps. The secret is practice, practice, practice!!!. No don't grind off the excess weld as it will crack. You can neaten it up if required though. Good luck Gary

    nitride heat treating

Frederick, as a student of materials I have never heard of cryogenically treating metals to increase their fatigue strength, what is the mechanism and does it only apply to 4340 range?. Can you point me to any other resources on the web?. thanks Gary

    SW Equations

Sorry for not replying sooner dsi, busy xmas & new year!. I'm not sure how to use the info you gave me. This is my formulae x = (((D12+10)/2)/(D6-((D12+10)/2)))asin.2 It is for finding the angle of two circle centers(circle diam = D12) with a chord distance on a PCD. PCD is a function of...

    Problems with metal stains, etc.

What type of alloy are you using? Some types of non weldable s/steel have too much carbon in them. Could it be carbon, untouched by the acids, that you see?. How big are the particles? How well attached are they?. Is the surfactant correct for this acid?, this could be breaking down to carbon.

    SW Equations

Can anybody help me with using Inverse Sine & Cosine in Sw equations?. I can find reference to Inverse Tan (atn) in the manual but no reference to either abbreviation or syntax of the other two. Maybe there is a mathematical work around but it's a complex eqn. sin^ -1 would be easier...
