Thanks!
In this case a 10" beam could go the 18' distance required, but I am curious how you solve if you had a similar condition where a 10" beam could not normally make the span.
I actually have an area like this in the building which was solved with multiple intermediate transfer beams...
great ... but I like understanding - How is moment calculated for this Z situation?
if it is sufficiently stiffened, would it then be calculated like a straight beam except being stiffer in the section where the plates are?
The issues is a 2 tier stair landing whose design was engineered with a simple span W10-30 but that does not work because it was missed that both beams must be contained within their respective floor systems.
So I need to go back to the engineer (not really their error, there was no section...
For a simple clear span how does the strength of a Z shaped steel beam (2 Ibeams connected via plates) compare to the strength of a straight steel beam and more specifically, how do you calculate the moment and the connection required?
There must be more wear with Mitsubishi "injection technology" (I assume other vendors use similar technology) as they run at much higher speeds ... the GSHP version would avoid that problem.
One of the major issues is that the independent engineers who do geothermal mainly do commercial - I...
We do sometimes drop below 0F though it is rare and never for long. I just looked at historical data and the lowest mean temp on record was 12.3F 40+ years ago and the coldest ever was -11F in 1934 though in the last 50 years there were 2 days that reached -6 and -5.
I know the Mitsubishi says...
I could do geothermal VRF, had not considered that option.
My area DT
heat 99.6 12.6
99% 16.9
cool
DB 88.0
MCWB 88.0
Would you consider 16.9 low, I cannot find a COP table for the City Multi but it is about 4 for AHRI 1230 test method - that tells me nothing but perhaps useful to...
GSHP would have to be 4 units with 4 air handlers because I do not believe you can put 2 air handlers on a single unit? Each air handler would handle a separate section of the building with a short trunk and because the house is tight I don't usually run ducts to the windows, just to the rooms...
Developer/GC on a residential project where I have a choice between geothermal and VRF (possibly heat recovery) - no gas service, and we do not want propane, so any solution is electric.
Zone 4a, big shoulder months, a lot of south facing glass, the house is very tight (closed cell foam and ICF...
is there a thread that specifically discusses electromagnetism? I am posting to electric motors since I believe there is a lot in common in the subject matter and what I am after, and so I expect I might find engineers with the right expertise here.
Specifically, I want to calculate
- the...
we normally dig deep enough to perc which on this site is probably 11' based upon earlier digging we did for a rain garden, but the surrounding soil will still be clay unless I excavate a much larger area and fill and compact it, which presents its own issues.
I did get a reference for a...
understood and thank you for helping me understand the terminology ... I was looking at it from a "how much electricity to run the fan" and if there is a higher pressure loss it means more electricity is needed to run the system, correct? That is what I was referring to as efficiency but I...
Thank you all,
When I say precise detail JAYROD it is because there is an infinity edge and you do not want that out of level so I need to protect against heaving and settling.
I agree pools don't normally have footings CVG, but this could be going over a building (the vault) so I am assuming...
Apologies for posting in the wrong forum - so the critical insight I gained is that if we desire to use smaller ducts then we need to keep the velocity low which can be done by delivering the target CF over longer time or by delivering warmer/colder air to decrease the CF demand, or both...
I am a builder trying to understand one aspect of HVAC duct work design.
Non-engineering literature I have reviewed seems to not properly discuss the effect of pipe size on efficiency in delivering air through a HVAC system because it assumes the CFM is constant rather than the static pressure...
I am builder for a project, this will go to engineering before permitting but I am trying to solve a conceptual problem so as to put together a preliminary design and budget. Time is of the essence and my structural engineer is hospitalized for the next two weeks so I am turning to the forum for...
