Knife-line Attack prevention when welding 321 SS

Thank you for all the answers. Your input in very appreciated. I think i have a better understanding now of what happens when you re-heat a stabilised SS. @EdStainless. We are welding thicknesses ranging from 3 mm to 25mm( design temps. ranging from 490C to 660C), most of the products are not...

Knife-line Attack prevention when welding 321 SS

Dear Gents, I've been trying to understand the welding metallurgy of stainless steels. I'm working mainly with 321 material(347Si filler) and one particular problem with this can be KLA. I've understood that during re-heats of an existing joint the Niobium carbide / Titanium carbide can...

Effect on mechanical properties of welding stainless steel without gas purge

@kingnero Thank you for your input.I'll conduct a pre-qualification test to observe the level of oxidation on the back side, just for my information. @EdStainless Thank you for your valuable insight. If TiO2 is present then re-welding the root pass won't be sufficent as HAZ will also be...

Effect on mechanical properties of welding stainless steel without gas purge

Hello everyone, I need to qualify a PQR acc. to AWS D1.6 on TP321 base metal. In existing PQRs of my current employer i see that similar tests were made on test coupons that were not back gouged or purged whitch means that "sugaring" occurs and every destructive test( tensile, bend, macro...

    A240-321H filler metal

@XL83NL I've looked through API 577 and API 582 and everything points to ER347. We only do the Splitter part of the Flue Gas Silencer, maybe thats why its AWS, but this is a shot in the dark. We're welding plates of 3mm and 5mm thickness, joint designs of II, 1/2V and a2/a3 FW and FN readings...

    A240-321H filler metal

Hello all, Product: Flue Gas Silencer Design code : Not specified but PQR must be acc. AWS D1.6 Base Material : A240-TP321H Design temp. : not specified but considering the base metal I'd say between 500 C - 800 C Question : I'm having trouble chooting a filler metal for this type of steel. My...

    API 6A interpretation

Hello friends, Can anyone help me with an interpretation for API 6A's 7.3.4.6 regarding Impact testing for welding procedure qualification. I am particulary interested in the first statement as this is vague when im translating it in my native language and it is not clear when you have to...

    Welder qualification ASME IX

@XL83NL I am new to this forum, ill take that into consideration next time i will start a thread.PQR and welders must be qualified as per ASME IX and i dont know how to translate the names of the parts in english so ill just upload a picture.Position's 2 dimensions:Ø32, 7 mm thick.

    Welder qualification ASME IX

I currently use a welder qualification for S355J2H, BW, thickness 25mm (1"),Ø 298,5, SMAW.Can i use this qualification for a FW, Ø60, thickness of 10mm and the same material quality? If i understand correctly from ASME IX Table QW-452.6 regarding Filler Qualification by Groove-Weld Tests all...

Welding S355NL2 for a special requierments project.

Thank you all for all of your responses. I have one more problem. In this project there is also a weld combining AISI 4130 with S355NL/P355NL2 ( fillet weld, s= 25 mm, a=7). I have PQRs for this kind of weld using E12018-G-H4 and ER 100S-G, but the problem is that this part is working in H2S so...

Welding S355NL2 for a special requierments project.

@kingnero: From what i understand the client's official order is for 27J @ -45 because due to API they couldn't place the order for 27J at -60( this is what the QA manager told me, don't know the exact details). What i am trying to do is to take as many precautions as possible to ensure the...

Welding S355NL2 for a special requierments project.

Thank you for taking the time to answer to my thread. Impact values must be guaranteed at -60 °C / -76 °F. I dont have the exact chemical comp yet but the carbon equivalent will be max 0.33,filler material will be E 8018-G and heat imput will range between 1.8 - 2.12 kJ/mm.

Welding S355NL2 for a special requierments project.

Hello everyone, I have to write a welding tehnology for some parts that must be guaranteed at -60(-76 F). To give you some information, there will be both butt welds and fillet welds and the thickness will range between 10-20 mm( 0.39" - 0.78"). I usually weld this type of material(PNo.1)...

Hello everyone, As per API 6A, hardness testing on 100% of all accessible pressure-containing, nonpressure-containing and repair welds shall be performed after all machining operations or it should be tested only when the customer requiers it? Thank you
