    Leaf spring press fit

I get that yield stress = E * y/ neutral axis. I don't understand what y is and how it relates to diametral deflection. For example if I am installing say a 1 inch radius rod into an eye that has an undersized inside radius of say 0.975" that would be diametral interference of 0.050". If the...

    Leaf spring press fit

I would like to determine how big of a tapered solid rod of steel I could insert to open the eye up before the eye or rod would yield. I was hoping there was some theoretical answer to this that someone was familiar with.

    Leaf spring press fit

I hadn't thought of it as a curved beam with a rectangular cross section but that would be the case for sure. If I know the inner diameter of the spring eye and the outer diameter of the bushing that will be interfering, is there a way to get to stress from there using the moment equation...

    Leaf spring press fit

The formula shown would be useless as soon as one would make a cut in the outer housing as it would no longer be attached (like a leaf spring eye is). I want to calculate the mating surface pressure which I can then use to determine the stess in the outer member.

    Leaf spring press fit

I am trying to find a formula that will determine pressure at the mating surface where the housing/spring eye is open and not welded shut into a bore. Both materials are steel. I would think it would have to incorporate perhaps a spring constant or the something similar? I could not find...

Sorting injection molded bbs nondestructively by internal mass distribution

I am thinking that it would be reasonable to have a V section with no air to get the bbs rolling and then have a section with the bottom gone and air flow upwards to allow them to ride on a cushion of air. The only questions are: Does width of the air cushion matter? Does having a V that is...

Positional tolerance with group deviation allowable

I have two plates that are the same with the same hole pattern on front and back plate. Normally the position tolerance at MMC would be 0.06" for assembly to work perfectly. However the part could be allowed to rotate 0.5 degree after welded at assembly by the technician. In essence once the...

Sorting injection molded bbs nondestructively by internal mass distribution

The air float idea seems possible to implement even with 3d printing/ rapid prototyping.

Sorting injection molded bbs nondestructively by internal mass distribution

I thought about that too. But distance would probably need to be pretty far. Thanks.

Sorting injection molded bbs nondestructively by internal mass distribution

I would like to understand what technologies and input output devices could be used for this. Assuming the bb is already perfectly or near perfectly spherical as plastic ball bearings are, would there actually be wobble that would be perceivable? The machine proposed exists I'm very certain. It...

Sorting injection molded bbs nondestructively by internal mass distribution

I am looking to replicate the work of another who devised the below sorting system which is for a hobby of mine. It sounds like the injection molded bb is being rotated and somehow sorted based on how it dynamically spins or possibly wobbles versus it's original diameter. Does anyone know of a...
