    Measuring tar viscosity

Does anyone know of a lab with the capability to measure tar viscosity at different temperatures? (The temps are 100, 150, and 200 degrees C) Thanks.

    Batch reactor emissions

So in developing your emissions factor, did you use a % yield or % conversion for amt of product drummed compared to amt solvent purchased?

    Batch reactor emissions

If you were starting from scratch, how would you approach evaluating the amount of emissions occuring from a batch reactor that processed different chemicals? I have about a dozen reactors to do this for, each of which produce several different chemicals throughout the year. I'm starting small...

    Column emissions

Doing the annual emissions inventory report. I've calculated NH3 emissions for a distillation column that makes Benzyl amine. The one thing I'm unsure about is factoring in any bottoms re-distillation. We don't keep an "inventory" of it. What's the best approach for estimating any emissions that...

    Heated storage tank emissions

Is there a way to adapt the storage tank emissions in AP-42 Ch 7.1 for a tank with heated liquid? The tank is a vertical fixed roof and will contain molten benzoic acid at about 140 deg F. Would you just use the 140 for the bulk liqud temperature instead of calculating it off of ambient...

Waste treatment options for nonyl phenol/phenol

Got about 20000 gallons of a nonyl phenol/phenol mix from cleaning nonyl phenol heels out of tanks. We have a Haz waste BIF so we have the option of applying for a Class 2 permit mod to burn it, which would take several months by the time the public comment etc took place. I'm looking for some...

    methanol vapor condensation

    1) Assume that it is saturated with water. 2) Temperature is ambient. Unsure of pressure in ducting to outside atmosphere. (Client does not know). 3) Concentration is ppmv. 4) Recovery of MeOH is not goal. The idea was that it would reduce the concentration of the methanol in the airstream to...

    methanol vapor condensation

I have an application where 22,500 cfm of plant exhaust air contains 1500 ppm of methanol vapor. We are looking at various technologies to treat, and someone mentioned condensing the methanol to bring the concentration down before sending the remaining air to APC equipment. Would this actually...

    VOC removal through carbon absortion

Biofiltration is a good option if you don't want the natural gas costs and additional secondary pollutants. For your components though, the efficiency will likely get no higher then 85% (versus an RTO getting 95+). ALso, if your acetone concentration is high, it can affect the pH in the...

Cost graphs for blowers and pumps

I remember way back when I was a wanna be engineer in college seeing these cost estimation graphs in my Econ book for blowers and pumps. For example, you could estimate how much a blower would cost based on the CFM and the psi max discharge. Does anyone know of a resource on the web that can...

How do I remove acetone from waste water

I have nine 400 gallon totes of wastewater containing acetone (about 200 ppm) that I need to treat to remove the acetone so it can be discharged to the local POTW. Is there a simple effective way to do this? Thanks.

Quantifying odor removal at rendering facility

Is there a method to quantify the actual percent removal of odor compounds coming from a rendering facility (besides an odor panel)?

excess of formaldehyde - air treatment

I agree on the biofilter as an option (use an in-vessel, not open bed - it takes up less space). It will effectively treat the formaldehyde without the chemical costs, but make sure that any particulate coming off your process is dealt with prior to entering the biofilter to prevent clogging.

    H2S removal from air

You might consider using a smaller in vessel biofilter for the sewage stations in the neighborhoods. The City of Portland (Oregon) has one on a sewage station where there were previously complaints. Check out www.bioreaction.com. They have low flow biofilters.
