Centerless Grinding - Part Slip on Regulating Wheel

If the slippage is accompanied by rattling of the part it probably is low coolant concentration. 8-12% is usually a good level for soluble coolant. Too low a concentration will actually let the blade pick up part material and swarf and cause the part to lose contact. Another possiblity is that...

    Supfina Super Finishing Machine

A very good company. I visited them several years ago and looked at their superfinish machines. Unfortunately, they were only available as thru-feeds and I was looking for a plunge type. I was so impressed with their products that I bought one of their tape heads (made to be mounted on a...

    Perfect Spot Faces

I agree with Chappy2. If the material is at all malleable, try a roller burnish tool to finish the spotface. I have used them on fairly hard grey cast with good results.

    Fanuc OM error

The 414 error usually means that you have an axis disconnect. This error is very common when a cannon plug comes loose or an axis cable gets cut.

    Mazak Fusion Program Downloads

Actually, if I had that many programs to download, I think I would would bail out of the Mazak I/O page and download them onto the card using Windows Explorer. You can select a directory in the I/O page but it is slow compared to using the file capablities of Windows.

automating weld of fitting to a small shell

Good question. Have you considered capacitive discharge welding? We do a lot of robotic MIG welding where I work but we have found CD is especially good at the type of thing you are talking about. You can monitor current and displacement during the process and maintaining the equipment is...

"Normal" CNC mill and CNC lathe tolerances in aluminum

A good average tolerance range on most lathe or mill work would be around 0.1mm or 0.005in. Most types of Al are readily machineable and stable - it is no problem holding any reasonable tolerance. If you don't have any specific tolerance requirements then remember that the closer the...

Program to open predefined files by click ....

You can do what you want by using the ShellExecute command from inside a VB or VC program. As long as the file type is defined on your system and you have the software to open it, this will work. In fact, Windows calls ShellExecute when you double-click a filename.

    robotically weld thin material

Yes, you can weld such things. You will have to apply most of your heat to the heavier part. .035 wire is probably a good choice for this application. Be sure to check out www.weldreality.com. This is Ed Craig's website and it is an invaluable resource for all types of welding. You may want...

    EXPLODING 20"x8" WHEEL

We had a similar incident on a GC 500 centerless machine with a 24 inch wheel a few months back. This parts running thru the machine had been rattling so I asked the team leader to dress it. It blew up on the first dress pass (coolant on the diamond) just as it came to the exit side of the...

By all means dress your reg wheel. It should be done regularly. A poor reg wheel dress is the cause of about 75% of geometry problems on centerless machines.
