lenght of the umbilical is 5km, but less relavant as a vessel moves allong while the umbilical is pulled in (so a virtual straight pull will be maintained).

assuming Medium Subrounded SAND (0.25 - 0.5 mm) i would like to estimate the force required (virtually staight pull) to remove an umbilicle burried at 0.8m at a 30meter water depth.
Could someone point me in the right direction please?

Previously tried to mesh using the default settings... same pb ;-( Will try to dig-out if the VAR-help can suggest some option (although i'm not sure yet were to find this....).
Other options, such a virus-progs or program installation, are out of the question. I'm using a clean XP-pro...
maybe some more info...
during mesh create i get a window with
- Evaluating geo.... checked
- Processing boundary... checked
- creating mesh..... not responding ;-(

i'm not getting any message / notice at all......
What i just tried again is to extrude a part (round bar) define the material, create a study (static, solid mesh), define restraints and load.
Next step is to create a mesh, high quality, standart type, jacobian check=4, else no other things...

I'm having some problems with Cosmosworks 2004 integrated in Solidworks 2004.
When i try to perform a FEA on an assembly or even a single part (rectangular extrusion) the part / assembly 'meshing' stops and the program (both Solidworks and the Cossmoss ad-in) fail to respond...
