Even though I don't like the fact that we now have to deactivate our desktop & then activate the laptop I do understand it. I too read the whole thread above. It is what it is. We understood our VAR to say that either one of us could deactivate our desktop and activate the laptop. that doesn't...
we've just upgraded to SW2017. There are 2 designers here, each with a stand alone seat of SW. We also have SW on a laptop that we have in the past shared when we go on a road trip. Either He or I will take it as needed. Now that we have to deactivate one machine and then activate the laptop...
We are about to get 2 new computers here at work. I am aware of the SW approved list on their site, there are many choices. my last computer they got me a gaming card. Could someone give us the basics of what we need to run SW reliably. We do complex assy's wit lots of sub assy's etc. (machine...
just double checked & when I right click on any one of the tabs, there are only 4 choices shown, all checked. But they are the tabs from the assy, not the drawing. I also tried a ctl-Q rebuild but that didn't change anything.
I have a particularly annoying problem with SW I will try to describe concerning Command Manager Tabs.
When I have an assy open I have these tabs: assembly, layout, sketch, evaluate.
When I start a new drawing from one of my saved templates I have these tabs: view layout,annotation,sketch,evaluate...
just saw your post about file locations... I'd never thought of that but I did just now check & it is pointing to the correct folder.
THANKS FOR ALL YOUR HELP!
I just copied the (4) colorswatch files from my neighbors station & replaced mine. It WORKED!! all is well again.
I experience frequent solidworks crashes to the point its just an annoying part of my workday. I may have actually been changing the color of a prt file when it crashed & perhaps...
thanks for the input....but unfortunately it didn't work.
The dropdown menu is on "standard" & always has been. If I pick another selection it is also grey, with the exception if I pick "shiny" there is (1) lone green square in the upper left corner only. No one uses this station except me &...
I noticed last Friday that my color swatch is gone. It is still gone today.
On a solid part model I rightclick on the model name in the tree/select the appearances ball/select the color square/ the appearances bar opens but the color swatch is missing. The window is there but the background is...
What I did was remove the dropdown altogether for chamfer/fillet from command mgr & put the individual buttons there for each. Seems like I did that for a couple of other commands too.
It's just what I was used to & it works for me.
scott,
my mistake...I was mistaken about using the file being from our server. The other guys each have the file on their station. We do have hole callout text file and our templates etc on the server so I assumed this file was too. We do have the file stored on the server but just to copy to...
We have 5 seats of SW 2008 sp3.1 installed. We have the file SWBrowser.mdb (which has been modified to our particular needs) saved to a common spot on our server. Others can then direct their path there & use it. I cannot although I have been able to in prior versions. I am using the same file...
OK,
the powers at be here are about to upgrade my system first to see the effects & then pass it on to another & get me a new unit.
with the above mentioned system, do you see any problem with:
1)bumping the Ram up to 2-3GB, maybe even 4GB
2)upgrading the video card to an Nvidia Quadro FX 3500...
Thanks, We could upgrade what we have but are also expecting to buy complete new CPU's & hand ours off to other users in the plant who have less demands than CAD. More Ram in our existing machines would no doubt help but would we have a top notch system? or should we look for all new hardware...
We are currently looking at upgrading to NEW systems. We run SW2007 now & have 2008 but have not installed yet. Here is what I have now:

Dell Precision 650 series CPU
XP Pro Version 2002, Service Pack 2
Xeon CPU 2.80 GHz
2.79GHz, 1.00 GB of Ram
