Power Station Cooling Capacity More in United Kingdom, than Australia, Despite Apparent Weather Advantage, Justification Request

Thank you for the response. My guess was that GBR would have more power/cooling tower due to WBT etc, however the "justification" concludes that GBR has less i.e. GBR/AUS = 350/700 MW/tower.

Power Station Cooling Capacity More in United Kingdom, than Australia, Despite Apparent Weather Advantage, Justification Request

Thank you for the response, though I concluded are similar according to the following buried in the original post: The cooling towers are apparently dimensionally similar with a base diameter of ~ 100 metres according to my measurements using Google maps.

Power Station Cooling Capacity More in United Kingdom, than Australia, Despite Apparent Weather Advantage, Justification Request

Can you please advise why power stations in United Kingdom - GBR apparently historically had more cooling capacity, natural draft cooling towers, than Australia – AUS? A summary of the justification for evaluating the cooling capacity of GBR as more than AUS follows: Benchmarking: I interpret...

    Bolt capacity in hand-tightened condition

The following may be of interest: 1. Fastener/pin ply capacity in bearing regarding ...sufficient confinement of the surrounding steel to increase the capacity..., refer attached, and 2. Fastener capacity with "loose fillers" as analogy regarding fastener capacity if not snug tensioned, refer...

    Bolt capacity in hand-tightened condition

I am unaware of the jurisdiction, though I propose that loose is unlikely to be according to the specifications I am familiar with - AS 4100. 1. The AS 4100 specifications, that I understand is to control nominal actions according to the standard’s assumptions, are attached, and 2. If providing...

    Wound rotor/squirrel cage with VFD

I speculate that the justification for what you heard was due generally using WRIM with secondary resistance to increase torque during starting etc. This is apparently not occurring for the WRIM currently installed, as the secondary resistance is stated to be shorted. A VSD in principle may be...

    Safe zone around purged vessel

The following historical information may be of interest: "breathing zone" means a hemisphere of 300 mm radius extending in front of a person's face measured from the midpoint of an imaginary line joining the ears; Ex: Occupational Health and Safety (Confined Spaces) Regulations...

I cannot directly assist, though the the AS 3600:2018 Sup 1 includes a discussion, that includes the following reference: OSPINA C.E., ALEXANDER, S.D.B., Transmission of High Strength Concrete Column Loads Through Concrete Slabs, Structural Engineering Report No. 214, Department of Civil...

    Wind Fence Failure

The detail has optimisation options, including: 1. Mixture of materials causes galvanic corrosion, as stated by others, 2. Self taping screws cause corrosion - consider fasteners etc if practicable, 3. Consider alternative material e.g. 316 stainless bracket/fixings, as generally stated by...

    Mill reports for redesign

The following may be of interest: he compliant mill (Figure 1(a)) targets a mean yield strength value well above the minimum requirement of AS/NZS 3679.1 300 Grade. Obviously some of this material will be above the average and some below the targeted average, however all batch test results will...

    difference between i and rpm

    1. I speculate that 105.28 is the reducer's precise ratio, and the ratio that you calculated is an "approximate" e.g. a practical motor's angular speed will not be 1300 RPM etc, due to various reasons, including slip, and 2. A ratio of 105.8 exists according to the catalogues available...

AISC Reduction in Load Capacity for Long Bolted Joints

The following also states background information regarding joint length, if I have understood the enquiry: Figures 5.51 and 5.52 show that a 40 ksi allowable shear stress for A490 bolts would provide the needed margin for joint lengths up to about 50 in. For joints with a length exceeding 50...

Suitable VFD for MV wound rotor motors

Perhaps consider the suitability of the motor for use with VSD, despite that you have already etc: Even though standard motors are commonly used successfully with PWM drives, drive duty places higher levels of dielectric stress on the motor insulation than are normally present under sine wave...

Should pipe based structures (RHS SHS CHS) be sealed or have their ends left open?

    1. I propose generally seal welded - the likelihood of holes etc is relatively low if the weld standards that I am aware of are used, and 2. I interpret the following to state similar, though also the corrosion associated with intentional holes is less than I would have estimated without this...
