Anyone who builds a working replica of a coalmine in his back garden gets my vote!
As a practical hands on engineer, Fred Dibnah was one of the best.
And he made good tv programmes too...
Blaster Bates was another great entertainer and explosives man, but not necessarily an engineer in the...
Ah yes.
The Chinese fuse thing...
"What BS number do you want printed on the side of this chunk of 6 inch nail in a ceramic carrier?"
Or variations on that theme.
Though I seem to remember that there's a I*t (or I squared t) curve for a fuse that you might find it useful to look up.
I tried that method many times with a disk controller card, CorBlimeyLimey and this:

is how I eventually fixed it.
By using an install routine from the chip manufacturer.
I was ever so impressed with the CD provided by the card...
This says a lot really...

In other words, toss the lot in the bin & forget about it... :o)
The battery supply is about 13.8V.
With enormous spikes from the alternator of 100V or more...
Your circuit will probably have to survive reverse polarity battery connection too...
There are MOSFETs available that have built in overcurrent protection.
Automotive design is a joy.
I calculated that I had 3 tonnes (or tons) of books in my databook library...
I then started distributing the load around before the cracks in the office ceiling below got any worse... :o)
I seem to recall that LDOs don't drop out as such, just stop regulating as the input voltage drops...
The tail current goes up spectacularly though, if I remember correctly, as the thing tries to turn on the series pass as hard as it can.

What's even weirder, I can't match the numbers on coils I ordered myself tothe toko numbers in the ancient catalogue I've got...
Sounds like the...
I'm not sure I'd term it specsmanship really.
It's more about being able to make a repeatable measurement of a parameter without something melting or searing the operator's fingers...

There's a shedload of comms stuff in C on the web.
What operating system?

Come to think of it, there's also the Neath Abbey Iron works which is very local to me, about a mile away.
The Neath Abbey Iron Works was involved with the very early iron ships.
This area of South Wales was intensely involved in the Industrial Revolution.

Does anyone know the rhyme or reason behind Toko part numbers?
I've got some that I bought, so I know what they are, but the numbers on them don't seem to correspond to the parts catalogue...
For instance, I have 90D0-162-002-86023, which I didn't buy.
How do I figure out what that is?
I've...
