    CMM fixture design help needed

You can do that but once you go away from carline it does not relate to how it interacts with other parts. The part doesn't have to be in carline it can be whatever suits best for measuring or manufacturing. Working from the fixture gives greater control than just working from the part...

    CMM fixture design help needed

Okay making a couple of assumptions, this part is for automotive and needs a fixture to support it. Pretty much all automotive work will be measured in carline but the fixture does not need to be. The normal case is to create a plain from the top of the plate and have four ground bushes that...

Contacted by another contractor to finish plans I started for my client the original contractor.

Is that really the norm? Once we have received full payment they become the IP of our client under our terms and conditions.

Contacted by another contractor to finish plans I started for my client the original contractor.

Without knowing what was written in the original contract or if the church has paid in full for the work carried out to date how can you know they acted unethically? I can personally see no reason not to speak to the original client and make a decision from there.

Are understaffed departments and unrealistic project deadlines the norm?

Sometimes employees will store up good deeds and it will count for nothing when push comes to shove. On the other hand sometimes employers will keep employees on when they really should let them go due to a down turn in work and then the employee will leave when there is an upturn. Life isn’t...

Are understaffed departments and unrealistic project deadlines the norm?

Very interesting CELinOttawa, it is always interesting to see what solutions different people/ companies come up with to the same problem. 20% still seems a big discount to me, however if it works as both a marketing tool and an early payment incentive and keep you busy and making good money...

Cost of DLMS part in titanium

What I don't understand is why it costs more to get it 3D printed in wax?

Are understaffed departments and unrealistic project deadlines the norm?

CELinOttawa I am intrigued how and why you came up with the 20% discount idea? As you say that everyone pays within 30 days why offer such a big discount to just get paid somewhere between a day and two weeks early? I fully understand the wasted time in chasing bad debt bit but even if you...

    Opening up my own firm

To Quote Benjamin Franklin "Our new Constitution is now established, and has an appearance that promises permanency; but in this world nothing can be said to be certain, except death and taxes."

    Opening up my own firm

It really doesn’t matter what anyone on here thinks it is what the law thinks, for that reason alone it is well worth speaking to a lawyer before making such a move. One thing to mention it is well worth looking at the terms and conditions in your current contract, assuming you have signed one...

Are understaffed departments and unrealistic project deadlines the norm?

I really don’t agree with you on that moltenmetal. As a well-paid professional you should produce your best work in return for a salary, why should you need a bonus or equity in the company for doing the job you are paid for? Why not take it on a stage and demand a bonus for turning up at all or...

Are understaffed departments and unrealistic project deadlines the norm?

I do sometimes wonder what people’s expectations are when I read posts on this site. Things like work smarter but only if it involves a worthwhile profit share or company shares. So how is it acceptable to work dumber for a reasonable salary? If someone at another company with a different...

    Drawing vs 3D CAD Model

I am intrigued as to why a designer with 20,000 hours experience on a high end CAD system feels that a machinist or whoever picks up the part to be made is going to be able to fix a model that they cannot?

    Drafting Equivalent of Texting

There seems two very different things here as far as CAD goes. Drawings that are created in 2D on a CAD system and views created from a 3D CAD model. 2D created drawings are not really much different to the same thing done on a drawing board, views created from a model are completely different...

    Drafting Equivalent of Texting

To see what I am trying to say Nereth1 look at an "old school" drawing of a cast part with lots of fillets, sweeping curves and draft angles on it, then look at a drawing generated from a 3D model. One is an exact representation of what you see and one is not but tricks the mind and the one...

    Advice on going paperless?

It was very much meant as a tongue in cheek comment, but with modern technology it is hard to believe someone could not have opened the file on some device if the instructions were not clear, especially for something that was going to cost $30 million. As with most things there is no one size...

    Advice on going paperless?

Longinthetooth you should have viewed it on a screen that way you could zoom in and read the small detail. Here endeth todays $30 million saving tip on the advantages of going paperless.

    Drafting Equivalent of Texting

Whilst I cannot speak for every CAD package out there I would say views generated from a model are far more accurate than they have ever been. They are exactly what you would see for any given view or section. Whilst a strength this is also a weakness as you either have an all or nothing...
