Threaded holes (InvR8)
The Hole tool using the tapped option does not permit the use tapered threads (they dont come up in the list)
There does not seem to be any good reason why tapered holes should be excluded. It forces the user to add the hole and then add the thread which leads to a problem...
sorry not to have replied earlier - been on holiday.
Far and away the most important task is to read the Project and file management document on disk#1 of AIS8 CD.
If this leaves you totally confused you will need professional advise.
ps many of the professionals are confused as well

I am not sure I fully understand this.
In Inventor R8SP1 I created a block and put three 10mm holes in it. Then I added three different threads - one to each hole. In the drawing I got three complete circles each with a different size partial circle outside it representing the threads. These...
I have noticed the exact problem you describe where 'save copy as' allows a library to be overwritten - I will check this out. I assume that the project you were working in actually does have the folder tree where the original library part was in its library definition.
Given that has been an...
Hi Redwing
I am currently testing a shareware product in Inventor R8.0
I got it from:
http://www.caddepot.com/dcd1/Autodesk/Inventor/
I cannot vouch for it yet. It does work but I dont know yet whether there are any side effects.

Hi uridial
The problem here is that the system only puts in the word TRUE if the dimension is added to a view in which the plane of the arc is not parallel to the plane of the view.
If you do all the dimensioning in a normal orthogonal view you wont see the word TRUE unless the circle/radius...
Hi
One good idea is to setup a project for library management in which your normal library folders are NOT libraries but are normal active project folders. This way you have a mechanism for keeping your libraries clean and tidy without the hack of moving stuff around just so you can maintain...
Hi
the only effective way to manage bend angles other than 90 degrees is to use the bend table. The problem with the Inventor bend table is its complexity. It requires vast ammounts of accurate data for different materials and thicknesses and accurate information at 5 degree increments within...
I wont disagree with Seans comments - I use a 3D Connections Cadman myself and would not be without it - at work that is. The problem is that for home use it is a pretty expensive solution.
The real question for me is whether there is a workable and significantly cheaper alternative that can...
The Autodesk provided component libraries are OK but they insist on creating components with names which are meaningless in our organisation. The bunch of xml files which seem to control things are hard to interpret.
We want to use in house names in the library browser and get in house names in...
Hi
There is no answer to this question.
What matters are:
1)a good graphics card - more Inventor crashes are caused by bad graphics cards or the wrong drivers than probably anything else - at least check the Autodesk web site for information and see also the threads on this site for other...
Hi
The key to generating flat patterns from cones or portions of cones is that Inventor along with many other similar modellers needs to a truly straight edge to get things started.
In the event that a cone has been sectioned or cut in some way it is critical that there exists an edge which was...
