ASME SECTION VIII, DIV. 1 UCS 66(c)

As far as I remember from my metallurgical lectures, to consider a carbon steel (SA 105 for example) a ferritic steel ( Fe-BCC) they must be normalized. If they are not normalized they are ferritic and perlitic steels . Can somebody throw light on this please.? MAC10

ASME SECTION VIII, DIV. 1 UCS 66(c)

metengr I Could not agree with your argument that since SA 105 is listed on Table A1 of B16.5 can be considered a Ferritic Steel. Why?. Because, following this argument we may also conclude that SA 182 Gr. F316L (which is also listed on table A1) is a ferritic Steel, and we know that SA 182...

ASME SECTION VIII, DIV. 1 UCS 66(c)

FERRITIC STEEL flanges for use at MDMT not colder than minus 20 degree F could be exempted from impact testing by paragraph UCS-66(c) of ASME code Section VIII, Div 1. Can someone help me with a definition of “ferritic Steel” according to the ASME code.? Can SA 105 be considered ferrict Steel...

What does L.P.F.T stand ford in pressure Vessel mechanical Data sh

I do agree that the lowest temperature to stamp the vessel is the M.D.M.T., I have not doubt about that. In any case the “lowest predicted fluid temperature” or any other temperature shall be above the MDMT in order to stamp the vessel according to the Code. My question was the about the exact...

What does L.P.F.T stand ford in pressure Vessel mechanical Data sh

Hi ! In a mechanical data sheet for pressure vessels under the heading “DESIGN CONDITION” immediately below the M.D.M.T. (minimum design metal temperature) is written L.P.F.T. It seems it is a temperature, but what temperature? Thanks in advance for the usual support. MAC10.

    Pressure Vessel PWHT Distortion

Rarely in a failure there is only one cause, usually there is combination of factors that lead to the failure. So this case is not an exception: we have overheating, burner control and location, etc. as contributing factors to the vessel deformation. But there are two points I would like to...

    Spring Hangers Maintenance

Hi! In a plant turnaround we need to do an overhaul of some piping spring hangers. We need to take them apart, change the springs, do the respective calibration, etc. We have not done this before, we will contract a local shop to the job, however I have to write up the procedure for them to...
