Critical Gap of air in heat shielding

Thanks for the info guys... IRstuff > Although the vertical cavity in the window is not really the same as the heat shield, it does share one characteristics, namely: Low air flow to remove hot air. It does however see much higher temperatures. 100 deg celcius under bonnet ambient...

Critical Gap of air in heat shielding

I was told during a recent design review of mine, that there was a certain distance (thickness) of air which if not maintained as a minimum would make any metal or composite heat shield manufactured not work as effectively as it was designed for. Does this "critical gap" (as it was refered to)...

    Isopropanol (CAS # 67630) alternative

Hi TrevorP, Please can you explain what you mean by "H&S issues"? Are you refering to health and safety issues? Thanks for the web link. It is very informative. I also see from the tables, that a concentration of 33% isopropanol will only suppress the freeze point to -15 degrees celcius...

    Isopropanol (CAS # 67630) alternative

The product should move the freeze point of the watertoa a temperature of -40 degrees celcius. The current product is mixed 1 part isopropanol to 2 parts water. (33% solution)

    Isopropanol (CAS # 67630) alternative

[spin] I am looking for an alternative for isopropanol. We are currently using this for its antifreeze properties, in the washer bottles of our vehicles. I am looking for a cost effective alternative, which must have the following characteristics: 1)It must be water soluble 2)It must be clear...

Converting from 3-d Models to 2-d dimensional dwg's

MDT is a good 3D software, but unless you purchase the add-ons, you will only be able to generate a 2D of the box in its finished state. If you want a parametric 2D development (which is what I understand from your query) then you would gt better results with Inventor, Solid Works, or Solid Edge.

Rear window cracks on dump truck

Hi Steve, Yes, majority of the cracks originate from the middle, bottom edge of the glass. For this reason we have (as a test) put a GRP brace down the center of the cab (vertically) so that we split the glass into 2 smaller pieces, ie. less flexing between the Lhs and Rhs vertical edges...

Rear window cracks on dump truck

Hi, Thanks for the response. The cab is mounted on isolators, but due to the different site conditions, the transmitted frequency cannot be accurately predicted. I have considered using a Lexan rear window, but our current machine design also has the exhaust stack running up, passed the...

Rear window cracks on dump truck

[b]I am a production engineer working at an earth moving equipment manufacturer, primarily dump trucks. I am primarily involved in the manufacturing of the operator cabins (cabs). Until recently we used to manufacture the cab entirely out of steel, but our latest model uses a GRP shell over a...

    Window cracks on dump truck

Sorry Aspear1 I think I was a bit vague in my initial statements. These cracks do not occur on all machines, but it seems as if there is some sort of wierd occurence that the machine goes through that causes some sort of flexing in the glass. The glass is question is a flat sheet of laminated...
