Hi,
I am currently working on modeling all our products in the 3-d state. We manufacture boxes. I want to know if once these 3-d models are created on MechDesktop they can then be viewed as 2-d dimensional drawings quickly and easily. Is MechDesktop the software that I want for a task like this? We want 3-d models to satisfy the growing desire of the consumer to be able to rotate, open, and view our products online, but also need the 2-d drwings still to show the internal volume of our enclosures to allow the customers to see what they can put inside the box. Does anyone have some recommendations on what program to use and how well MechDesktop can do the things mentioned above?
Thanks,
Zack

If I understand correctly, you want to be able to see the 3D model, rotate it, zoom it, etc. and also see the exact space in the box. You are not talking about the flat pattern of the box?

Of course you can do that, but first if you are seeking a new software, you can have way better than MDT, because a software like Solid Edge, Solid Works or Inventor can do this and have viewer incorporated that you can send to your customer for him to be able to see the model, rotate it and whatever. These software have built in fonctionality for this kind of task, that MDT doesn't have.
So unless you only have MDT, check out these software and ask for demonstrations.

Good luck

Patrick

MDT is a good 3D software, but unless you purchase the add-ons, you will only be able to generate a 2D of the box in its finished state. If you want a parametric 2D development (which is what I understand from your query) then you would gt better results with Inventor, Solid Works, or Solid Edge.
