Can sodium carbonate / salt be called basic?

For pH correction of an acidic process, Na2CO3 (Soda ash), is used to neutralise the solution. Now, my colleage says, Na2CO3 cannot be called basic / alkaline.(since it is a salt) For example, when you go through the MSDS of SODIUM BI CARBONATE, the pH valve is shown as 8.4. Now, in that case...

    How to powder KOH pallets?

Well, thankyou Orenda and unclesyd, BUT MY PROCESS at any cost needs KOH powder and not pellets. NOW KOH powder has to be imported and getting it is a hassle. So, we have no choice but to buy KOH pellets and powder them. So, I'am really looking for a solution to powder KOH pellets. Thankyou !

    How to powder KOH pallets?

I've just scaled up a process that uses KOH pwder. We purchase KOH pellets. Now this has to be "POWDERED". Any suggesions ? I thought a ball mill would be a good choice, But we were told it dosent work ?? ANY SUGGESIONS PLEASE ? Thankyou.

Condenser (Shell & Tube heat exchanger design)

I need a carification on designing a condenser. I've suceeded in developing a product on lab scale and I'am scaling it up into a 37 litre batch in a 100 litre jacketed vessel. Now the solvent vapors (tetrahydrofuran) goes into the condenser and is reflxued back into the column. Vapors enter...

    History of HYDRAZINE HYDRATE explosions.

I'am on the process of designing a unit which uses Hydrazine hydrate. The MSDS says it is explosive anywhere from 3% - 100%. I'am trying to find out HISTORY of MISHAPS or ACCIDENTS/EXPLOSIONS involving hydrazine hydrate. Can anyone help (any links on the internet? ) Thankyou !

Materials compatible with Hydrazine Hydrate and KOH.

Well, Firstly I'am designing a jacketed vessel, with hot oil and cooling in the jacket. A 500 litre vessel. The solution is highly basic, about 13. And hydrazine hydrate is one of the reactants that yields another product at 150 C, that is condensed and separated out. And no chlorides at all...

Materials compatible with Hydrazine Hydrate and KOH.

I'am working on designing a reactor for a process that uses KOH and Hydrazine hydrate upto 200C, highly basic and corrosive solutions. Hydrazine hydrate is not compatible with metals containing Molebdenum. Thus, SS 316 IS RULED OUT. Any other suggesions, From sources, I've learnt that Nickel...

(LDO ) or (heavy Diesel) ?

hello, I operate a 660kg/hr steam boiler(LDO fired)and also a hot oil generator(2lakh cal/hr) using the regular DIESEL from the gas station. We plan to start using LDO, and for this. I'am trying to find out the calorific values of both the normal diesel and LDO. LDO happens to be cheaper, but...

How to desin a Jacketed vessel ? (made of Nickel)

I'am on the process of designing a small jacketed vessel (1000 Lts capacity), operating a highly basic solution. Is there any internet source on designing JACKETED VESSELS ? (With thermic liquid heating ). Or if any one could provide me with an idea / procedure, I would be really greatful ...

    I'am trying to crack a trimer !

I need to crack a TRIMER (explosive)which has a decomposition temp of 130 C. When this TRIMER is mixed with DIETHYL MELONATE, the decomposition temp increases to 250 C, and also becomes stable. The solvent ( ie Diethyl malonate has a B.P of 198 C).Now the FINAL cracked product has a B.P of 298 C...

    Thermal cracker

Dear Mr Stone cold and Jay! Thankyou for your replies. Mr Stone Cold, i think there is a small misunderstanding here. Well, I'am not looking to crack a trimer at 250 C, though it detonates at 130 C. The trimer which is attached to 3 oxygen molecules is first added to a solvent (Di ethyl...

How to thermally crack an explosive trimer

This is a question on thermal cracking. I need to crack a TRIMER (explosive)which has a decomposition temp of 130 C. When this TRIMER is made into a 40% soln using DIETHYL MELONATE, the decomposition temp is 240 C and is quite stable. The solvent ( ie Diethyl malonate has a B.P of 198 C) Now...
