    Filtration basin modeling

Generally I would not model the filter media as part of my storage. In hydrocad, it uses this storage as instantaneous storage, which is not very accurate, as the flow would come from the top down. I would model this by only using the bouce storage. One outlet is exfiltration, but do not...

HydroCAD: Modeling a catchbasin as an outlet..

Do you size your oriface based on the square foot opening of the grate? You should be able to get this from the supplier. This will reduce the outflow considerably.

How long to put together set of plans?

Here is my take. I have been doing industrial and commercial site design for the past 6 years. Started with 0 experience. Started helping the PM write proposals at year 2. Full PM at year 4. In my experience, site grading takes the longest for these projects, as it tends to be very...

    Civil/Geotechnical Engineering Skills Shortages

Some very interesting comments. Only been in the Civil field for 5 years, so I started working in the housing boom era. So I can't comment about the lack of hiring 10-15 years ago. One reason why there may be a shortage of Civil Engineers is because the general population has no clue what a...

    Elevation of a 2-yr storm?

Does the pond have and outlet? If there is an outlet, what type is it, ie pipe, weir, oriface, etc. What type of storm event are you working with? Does the pond have a permanent pool volume, or does it drain dry? How big is the drainage area, and are you using a time of concentration? These...

Take me back to the good ol days!

Nice to see that everyone is haveing the same problem. You should try being a Civil Engineer on land developement projects. I do commercial and industrial site developement design. Typically, my project budgets are 75% used before the rest of the team has even started schematic design. This...

    Broken Underground Sewage Pipe

Jakin. I just attended a seminar for pipe rehabilitation. The company is able to line the entire pipe. They can also fix individual holes with a grout patch. If you are in the midwest you can check out their website http://www.visu-sewer.com/. With the depth, and other obstructions this may...

    Maximum soil compaction.

Thanks Ron. I have brought it to the attention of my boss. What is an acceptable maximum compaction for a standard proctor. Like i said earlier i thought that 104 to maybe 105 was pushing it. I know that since soil is so variable that a person has to use a little judgement or they will be...

    Maximum soil compaction.

I just have recieved a report of soil compaction test performed on a project I am working on. Two test report relative compaction of 106 and 111 percent. The geotechnical engineering firm used a Standard proctor to find the maximum dry density. The test were taken in sp soils with optimum...

Need information on drain tile pipe

I am designing a project that involves the use of drain tile pipe. My current specification and drawings show the trench being lined with a geotextile filter fabric and filled with a clean coarse filter aggregate. The pipe is to be placed on two inches of aggregate, and covered with aggregate...

    Grinnell's book

I look to this website for books, it searches several sites and will also give the cheapest price. http://www.fetchbook.info/ Don't know if it has the book you are looking for but it is worth a look.

    Tool Palettes problems

I don't think it is a problem with the Ltscale or the Psltscale. The problem is if I use the sanitary sewer linetype it draws a double arrow. If I then try to use the watermain linetype, which should be drawn with a tic mark, it is drawn with a double arrow.

    Tool Palettes problems

I have made several custom linetypes for some frequently used objects, sanitary sewer, storm, water, erosion control, etc. I have put them on the tool palette so that when I access them they will be drawn on the correct layers. The problem I am having, is when I select a line to draw, the...
