Call Trace support and tell them exactly your setup and they will walk you through it. There are many variations of systems and no single answer.
However, for the simplest system, it is possible that setting 100% OA at the airflow template is all you need to do.
There are other sites like this, but I like this one the best:
Penn State actual data on relatively current computer models.

dub 112,
We also have the same issue in our state, technically IMC 2003 is the current mechanical code, which has the ventilation portion based on the old ASHRAE 62-1989. However, we can ask for a variance to go to 62-2004 at the beginning of each job.
IMC 403.3.2 does not address minimum...
I'd agree with cdxx139. Except 10" ceiling reminds me of the Stonehenge scene in Spinal Tap.
Also keep in mind ASHRAE 15, the mfr. reps did not initially remind me about that. It turns out that if you have a lot of small confined spaces served by one big VRF condensor, you either need to...
hepa 99,
ASHRAE Fundamentals lists many typical assemblies.
ASHRAE 90.1 lists their current standards of U-values for different climate zones.
I'd suggest starting there.
Congrats. I agree with jnam82, without an interview combined with the fact that this is your first engineering position, you'll most likely be given small tasks. Most likely there are experienced people at that company that need help right away and that is why there was no interview.
If not...
Is it the smallest single row coil available for the particular scheduled RTU? Maybe that was the lowest capacity of the coil with the minimum gpm before laminar flow begins.
Otherwise, the designer is guilty of oversizing, which I see too much of in my own office.
Morning warmup should not...
The owner must understand that to get the savings of DCV, a smaller amount of money will need to be dedicated to keeping the CO2 sensors calibrated/working.
Our college/university clients tend to understand this. I'm not sure with the office buildings.
psugreen,
Yes, I believe there is a range that you can start with. If sound is critical, then an acoustical consultant can review the design. Otherwise good design practice should suffice, such as volume dampers at branch take offs, 10' min. duct runs with at least one elbow after the VAV...
psugreen,
What is the program? I'm sure the rule of thumb answers you will get from here would vary depending on how critical sound transmission is in your application.
I have seen recent comments pop up again in the "LEED Exam" thread regarding ventilation rates of ASHRAE 62.1-2004.
The states we design in still use IMC 2000, 2003, or 2006 which is based on old ASHRAE 62-1989 rates, but recently I have needed to dig into 62-2004 and understand it for LEED and...
Different states adopt different versions of ASHRAE 62.1.
To get a better answer, more information please.
My simplistic incomplete answer is:
1-ASHRAE 62.1-2004/2007 have both people and s.f. components built into the ventilation rate procedure.
2-ASHRAE 62.1-1989 (which IMC 2000, 2003...
We use Elite Chvac 7.1 as mentioned above. It is good for loads only.
Now that we are doing simulations we also have Trane Trace 700 and that is all half our office uses now. I have more complaints with the simulation portion, but for loads my biggest complaints are how windows are input, it...
newmind,
Carefully read the Trace instructions on how to import weather data. Those files linked by MintJulep appear to be tmy data, which Trace can import indirectly.
We use Trace, but we do a lot of modeling and LEED, so it is worth the $ to us for the customer support.
That being said, it seems everyone uses Equest and it is free.
You probably need to understand how Trace sets up the system you are trying to model. It can seem counter-intuitive at times.
1. I'm not sure I can answer why no kW showing up.
2. Ventilation supply is set in the DOA tab in systems, and if not it is calculated by Trace. Your fan coil supply...
RossABQ,
Architectural, Yes. Old big house to be used for offices for college. I'm most concerned about lack of zoning. But that will be brought up soon with the client. I wanted to find out about the rest of the potential issues.
Thanks all for your input so far.
